From what I understand, Dune Prophecy is the origin story of the Bene Geserite and happens 10,000 years before the events Paul Atredies. I'm thinking it's something that Herbert didn't write about much so it's going to be almost entirely new material into the cycle.

Understand that but he did lay the ground work and hinted at much of that back story so there's plenty they can change or leave out. Not saying they will just that there is room for them to do so and essentially censoring the word jihad, for reasons, out of the story is not a good sign.

Don't get me wrong.
Jackson changed and left out a bunch of stuff in the LOTR movies 90% of which was to condense it into 3 movies largely didn't bug me because they were largely necessary changes.
Changing something because it's name is currently "inconvenient" doesn't bode well for what else they may find to be "inconvenient". Hope I'm wrong.

It's entire another thing to say that they changed canon that simply didn't exist before they created it.

Jackson didn't do that. Very little of what was in those 3 movies wasn't part of the extensive canon with which he worked.

But that's not the case with Rings of Power series. They took canon and raped it on the altar of wokeness until it was comatose, then cried and protested about how Trumpy and MAGA the people protesting their bullshit were.
