A tidbit of the 2020 election that went unnoticed ...
« on: November 04, 2020, 12:41:51 AM »
Oregon becomes the first state to decriminalize hard drugs.

Should be interesting to watch.  Maybe they'll draw addicts like a magnet from neighboring states.

Well, now I have to start locking the car every time I go to OR to shop. There's already like 7,453 pot shops just in Ontario, with mostly Idaho license plates in the parking lot. Now the rest of the dirty shirt with the sleeves ripped off Idaho meth heads are going to start congregating there.

Pot may be one thing, but I wonder if decriminalizing Schedule I drugs is going to bring the hammer of the Feds down.

Will Oregon still arrest people for possessing the drugs or will the state issue a citation?  I'm not sure the feds can do much if the state refuses to arrest/prosecute.

Not under a Biden presidency.

I know, President Harris has a history of being super lax on non-violent drug user- Oh wait....

Well that's awkward.

Increased and ready availability of "hard" drugs may ultimately be a self-correcting problem - maybe some academic papers will be written on the half-life of the junkie population under such conditions.
Trump won in 2016. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.

I certainly wouldn't have voted for it, but the results should be enlightening, one way or another.

Will will see if it "works".   ???

This has always been my line of thinking.  Legalize and clean out the gene pool.  This is also my theory on why drug use drops in countries where hard drugs are legalized.

If Oregon's not going to punish mala in se crimes committed by their beloved fascist LARPers, why should they hassle the junkies?

Not to mention all the taxpayer funded government program administrators and social workers that will be needed to "help" those people.

I don't want to see dispensaries like for pot, but I may be in the minority here that I somewhat support decriminalization. Simple possession, no crime. Hammer of god for distribution, providing to minors, intoxicated crashes. Or maybe not worry with criminal anything, just make drug tests a condition of employment much like fed law requires an I-9 verification. Hammer employers.  [popcorn] Drug test for benefits or subsidized health care.

[snip].... Drug test for benefits or subsidized health care.

I can get behind that without "legalization" of drugs.
