How hard would it be to set up an algorithm that randomly draws congressional districts?

So like every 8 years the computer spits out new districts.

There would have to rules about them being contiguous and containing roughly equal amounts of people eligible to vote and maybe some rules about minimum or maximum widths both in specific places and on average.

What else would need to be considered and would it be an improvement to the process?

It wouldn't be difficult at all.  The problem is the politicians don't want a distribution that's equitable.  They would rather have predictable results.

Why not just have an algorithm that selects our federal elected critters every whatever # of years is the rule.  Or one that determines your job for life when you become 5 years old?  Or another that determines where you will live or your gender?  Or who will be a criminal or....

The algorithm would randomly redraw the districts, so it could run as often as we like.

Just for fun, let's redraw the districts every month.  It will keep the electorate on its toes.
