Did the pilot lose track of where the taxi lane was?  Looked like a storm and visibility may have been bad, but not that bad.

My guess is that the traction was close to zero, so the brakes and steering were useless.

Hmmm - will it be just the pilot who goes to the Chinese equivalent of Russia's Lubyanka, or will they do the traditional Chinese thing and grab his whole family, up to 6th cousins?

As do most multi-crew Asian airlines. Too much conditioning to allow pilot in command (older Captain) to make all decisions. Have they even heard of CRM . Case in point Asiana at San Francisco.
