Reminds me of a sailor who retired a bit earlier than he'd originally planned because of homosexuals in the military. He said first it was "don't ask, don't tell" . . . then it was gays openly serving . . . then they named a ship after a gay guy . . . he wanted to leave before it became mandatory.
Bob Hope made a prophetic joke about that decades ago. (I think it was California rather than the military)
