"And if you call it in, then the person on the radio goes "have you tried turning the bus off and turning it back on again"?  (The ratio of truth to exaggeration is actually quite high here.)"

Let me tell you a little story about that...

Few years ago I was working in DC and was taking a series of buses, including a local commuter bus.

One day commuter bus starts having issues, can't remember what it was, it might have been something with the fare collection system.

Driver pull over to a stop, asks us all to get out, says he needs to "reset the bus."

We get out, he walks back to a panel that he open and pulls what looks like a HUGE circuit breaker. Bus goes completely quiet. He waits a minute, then flips this breaker again, get on, spends a minute or three running some diagnostics (I guess?) and then tells everyone to get back on the bus, and off we go.

He literally turned the bus off and back on again.
So why did everyone have to get out?

Happened to me once on a jet too.  The passengers boarded, and there was an issue that required shutting everything down.  The passengers were taken off the plane for that.  We were allowed back on once the procedure was complete.  DOT/FAA thing?

Maybe DOT tarmac limit, but not an FAA reg.  I've rebooted the plane many times.with passengers onboard.

Ths Embraer 190 family is notorious for needing reboots.

I've also experienced reboots on a coach-class bus.

Do rollers count as wheels? What about bearings?

Do we count every one named Wheeler?

Are there more wheels or doors in the world?
 1. Wheels.
 2. Doors.
 3. I'm wrong.
 4. You're wrong.

Ambivalence A:
If I select 3., does that mean I think I myself am wrong, or that I'm agreeing that you yourself are wrong?

Ambivalence B:
If I select 4., does that mean I'm agreeing that you yourself are wrong, or that I myself am wrong?

'Tis a puzzlement.

There are quite a few people who consider themselves to be big wheels.

Quite a few actually need training wheels.

Well, my gun safe only has one door, but the revolvers in the safe equal a LOT more wheels...

Wheelguns don't have wheels.  They don't go anywhere.

Are we counting verbs, as in "He wanted to wheel around to face her?"

A wheel doesn't have to go anywhere to be a wheel.

My Mom's house had 4 huge sliding doors that used mechanisms similar to that.

But, is a tire a wheel? A wheel is definitely not a tire...  :old:

A misnomer.  That's not a wheel, that's a water turbine.

That's not a wheel, either.  That's a water turbine as well, 'cept moderner.  And torquier.

Many "gas wheels?"  No, multiple gas turbines.

Wind wheels?

=D

You be the judge, you do the counting.

Now, for "doors...."

A misnomer.  That's not a wheel, that's a water turbine.

Quote
The main difference between a water turbine and water wheel is a swirl component of the water which passes energy to a spinning rotor. This additional component of motion allows the turbine to be smaller than a water wheel of the same power.
