"Retard" is one of these new bad words that I can't give a *expletive deleted*it about. I've used it my whole life, and it has always equated to "imbecile", "dummy", "applehead" etc. Absolutely a common term when I was in elementary school.

I am never going to stop using it. It is part of the vernacular I grew up with for innocuous ways to refer to someone you would otherwise call something really bad. I remember the first time I learned that it's now apparently as bad as the "n-word" was when an intern at work freaked out when I called some other driver a retard when I was driving a group of us somewhere for a meeting. I laughed my ass off when she got upset. Then a couple of the libtards in the car told me how it's unacceptable. Too bad.
