Magtech ammo thoughts
« on: June 30, 2022, 09:00:42 AM »
I can't remember...

Is Magtech 9mm ammo good, bad, or indifferent?

TrueShot has Magtech 9mm on sale for $289 per thousand right now.

I used to buy it on sale for the brass and it was good. That was 15 plus years ago so not sure on current production.

OK, cool. I thought it was good stuff but I just wasn't sure.

I'm going to spring for 1,000 rounds.

I have fired through multiple boxes of Magtech 10mm with no issues, seemed to not be pud-loaded.  However, I bought a case of their 10mm this year and had issues with some of it.  Seemed like the case mouth was a hair too wide and had failures to feed.  The last couple boxes seems to work okay.

I spoke to MAC's camera guy at the NRA show and he said they had issues with Magtech then they bought it in bulk.

Just my two cents.  9mm might be okay.

I stocked up on Magtech 9mm awhile back when it was the cheapest option available at Cabela's (maybe 5 years ago?), I had no issues with it and I'm probably reloading some of that brass still.

Fired plenty of their 10mm with zero issues. Every manufacturer produces a bad batch once in awhile.

I hope so because I have barely put a dent in that case so far.   =)

The 9MM isn’t bad but the 10MM is watered down.

Not really at 605 ft.lbs
https://magtechammunition.com/products/ammunition/10mm-auto-180gr-fmj/
Not Buffalo Bore or Underwood levels but getting there
Most range 10mm ammo is usually closer to 40sw levels ~450-500 ft.lbs

I think the Magtech 10mm is fairly decent for commercially available 10mm FMJ ammo.  Other stuff I have bought it weaker.  I think the Sig 10mm FMJ is the only practice ammo I have used that might be hotter.  A lot of defense ammo available isn't much better.

Comment:  Every since I started looking at 10mm, someone always says [ammo being discussed] is under powered.  I have to wonder if full powered 10 mm ever really existed as a normal load available in stores rather than just a boutique load you can get from a few ammo producers.   =)
