I use 8 cups of water measured by the line on the carafe of my Black & Decker coffee maker.

1/3rd of a cup of Maxwell house (a bit proud given that I don't shake off the coffee dome) goes into the basket.

Perfect for me.

How can anyone "micromanage" the production of coffee? Does he have someone out there watching Juan Valdez the entire time Juan is picking and bagging the beans?

To be fair, every one of the 7,435,987 "small batch custom coffee" sellers out there these days all give the same, "personally supervised every step of the way" spiel.

Heh.

Fill electric kettle from filtered water in fridge door  set for 204F

Push 14g preset on integrated grinder and scale. Push grind.

Set V60 and filter on top of mug, place on kitchen scale.

Dump 14g ground coffee into filter. Tare scale.

Slowly pour 370 grams of 204F water over grounds. Let drip through

Put V60 in drip cup and top coffee with 15g cold water to make right drinking temp.

Drink coffee.

Not that complex.

204 ºF ?

Huh.  You can't get open water that hot up here:

.....Upness.............Hotness....Europeness
5000 ft. (1524 m.)   202 ºF      94.5 ºC
5500 ft. (1676 m.)   201.5 ºF   94 ºC
6000 ft. (1829 m.)   200.5 ºF   93.5 ºC

Your Upness must be less than 4000 ftnesses.

Flatlander.  How do you like breathing that thick soupy air?  I'll bet you even have that water vapor stuff in it. How can you even move, having to push all that air out of the way?

Sheesh !

I'll bet even your bullets drop a lot getting through all that goo on the way to the target.

If you need tums, you need better covfefe...

Heh.  pHooie on youie.

Found a long time ago that a Tums tabbie enhances coffee and eliminates coffee headache.  And it has calcium instead of sodium, like sodium bicarb does.

That's pretty cool, but I'd have to say, rather pointless.

It does nothing that can't be done better with a jetboil and aeropress.and if you get the knock off jetboil, cheaper.

I have seen the Makita and Ryobi portable coffee makers being used on construction sites.  If you already have the battery system for them and you like fresh coffee on the job, why not?

Obviously not. You didn't even specify the cold water temp.  =D

Or the size of the spoon -- tea, or table?

This is NOT a backpacking stove. Hooks up to a standard 20# Propane tank. 15,000 BTUs. Granted, this is only one burner, but is fast...

Perhaps I overgeneralized the word "spoon."  It's actually a scoop, ID 37.5 mm, depth 24.0 mm.  You figure it out. I never weighed the delivered content per "spoon."  And thanks for the technical correction, Bogie.

On the batttery operated coffee maker:

1>  I am constantly being amazed at the storage capacity of modern storage cells (or "batteries," if you will).

2>  When I had my  camper, although it had a gas range, I brought my regular 110v coffee maker along on trips and made coffee by starting the generator, which I had chained to a a tree some distance away from the camper. When we woke up in the AM, I'd jokingly tell Son2 to "go start the campfire," meaning go start the generator to make coffee.  A battery-powered coffeemaker would have come in handy back then.

Back when I was going full-bore Freak Show Tent with stuff like the Knob Creek trip, I bought a coffee maker with a stainless insulated 10 cup carafe (Krups) and a generator to make it happen. I tried (the trip before) using the van batteries and an inverter, and... that was a problem.

Most drip coffee makers nowadays are 600-900 watts. Some of the older ones were 1,500, as much as a full blown elec heater.

When I go hiking/camping, I bring along a 32 ounce Stanley French press and coffee that I ground at home. Boil water, add coffee, wait for 4 minutes and press.  I have done some of the French press kits that fit in a Nalgene bottle, but I need to use a separate pot to boil water.  I can do everything in one pot with the Stanley.  I use a 16 ounce Stanley French press mug for the office, but we have a hot water tap in the breakroom.

My present coffeemaker says 900 Watts, but I never actually measured it.

I too have tried the inverter technique a couple of times in a couple of applications.  Even with a small (pre-digital) 6" TV set I was going to use for emergency weather info, it turned out to be a real coulomb-sucker.  Same thing with a 110V electric drill.  Inverters (at least the older ones) do not like inductive loads.  Now admittedly, this was with an old car battery I kept around for emergencies, but still.

A few years ago Mtnbkr and his wife gave me a french press mug for Christmas. It's all one unit, not separate like the Stanley.

I use it primarily for tea (I like loose leaf teas).

Does a great job.
