I ain't countin' no chickens, but I am wondering what a second Trump term might be like. I guess the rest of us are, too, so here's a thread for speculation.

A big problem with his first term (if I remember correctly) was that a lot of Republicans that might normally have staffed a presidential administration refused to be involved. I think that's how we ended up with the Scaramucci incident. It seems the party is much less divided now, so that wouldn't be so much of a problem. Maybe he could be more effective a second time around, even if he'll be a lame duck half the time.

Also, since American politics has been insane for about 8 years running, how about this scenario?

Jan. 2025: Donald Trump becomes president. Again.

Dec. 2025: Donald Trump is removed from office, following impeachment for ?

Summer 2028: Donald Trump becomes the Republican presidential nominee. Again.

Dec. 2029: Donald Trump is removed from office, following impeachment for ?

Summer 2032: Donald Trump becomes the Republican presidential nominee. Again.

Can't happen. If Trump wins this election, it will be his second term. Even if he were to be impeached a day after he took the oath of office, he would not be eligible to take office for a third term.

Yep
what the 22nd says

Quote
No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once

That's why LBJ was eligible to run in 1968 (he declined to do so) but Trump would not be if elected in 2024 and then removed from office

I think he would also be ineligible due to the impeachment conviction, but it tickles me, so I'm sticking with it.

But you know within 5 minutes, if that long, of Trump taking the oath the dems will be calling for an impeachment vote. Rinse / repeat every other Tues there after.
This is assuming someone wearing a bomb vest doesn't take him out first. You know, for democracy

You know, we had that one moron set himself on fire for Palestine, so as much as we might have joked about the wacky lefty extremists and their noodle-armed "we'll kill all the MAGA extremists in combat" army, I have to say that the possibility of an American suicide bomber is not tinfoily anymore. They have lost their minds with the TDS and "We'll become a dystopian state on 21JAN" crap.

I wasn't joking, I think it's a very real possibility nowadays for the very reason you gave and I have almost no doubt they could find plenty of volunteers ready and willing to do it to save, in their minds, America from Hitler.

Weird thought here:  The Evil Party could sabotage Trump this time around by admitting that he was in fact elected last time, and only lost it due to chicanery.

Dems are already planning for another Trump impeachment, I'm sure.
Trump won in 2016. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.

When your opponent is Hitler you can justify any amount of electoral shenanigans. Kinda like 2020.

Weird thought here:  The Evil Party could sabotage Trump this time around by admitting that he was in fact elected last time, and only lost it due to [their own] chicanery.

 !

Oh, the complexications!  Almost like a good mystery novel.

It's pleasant to speculate that all the Republicans in name only might suddenly start thinking, "Gee, maybe there's some election appeal to his premises that I ought to start following."

And maybe some Dems, too.

...and they lived happily ever after.

I wouldn't mind seeing another semiconservative Justice on the Bigass Court appointed.  Who can read the English Language.

And who isn't too scaredy-cat to offer opinions beyond the immediate very narrow restrictions of the cases they have to examine.

Like the whole of the "tax measure" of NFA 34 being a falsely-based reprehensible affront and insult to our Constitutional principles.

Like f'r instance the $2,800.00 tax stamp to own a silencer / suppressor.

Just f'r instance.

I've heard someone speculate that "they" are more than happy to let Trump inherit Joe's mess for 4 years, and take the blame for it. I don't know if the propaganda machine can really make people forget how badly Joe mangled things, vs Trump's relative (or absolute) competence. Then again...

I saw Trump tacitly and indirectly admit to a problem in his 1st administration by saying that now, in a SECOND administration, he "knows who the good people are" and that he'll be making the RIGHT appointments this time.

As always - we'll see about that. But there's reason for optimism. Cautious optimism, of course . . . but optimism nonetheless.

I've had none whatsoever for the current administration.

Hopefully if he is elected, and has a majority in the House and the Senate they get stuff done while they can.  They missed opportunities the first time.

The Stupid Party's track record makes this highly unlikely.  And I'm being generous.
