If you are using either jacketed or semi-jacketed HPs in .380, look at the jacket material to see if it is "pre-scored" to make expansion easier.  If it is, you can enhance that even more by taking a razor knife and cut into the jacket material GENTLY to increase that scoring.

I will take that as my cue to start a rumor that if you do that to your carry ammo, the DA will use it against you in court.  =D

IMO, there is such a thing as expanding too quickly especially for calibers that are on the weaker side to begin with.  IMO, look for tests of the ammo online and/or figure out how to test it yourself.  Find something you trust without having to modify it.
