Reheating Frozen Bread
« on: February 17, 2023, 07:45:13 AM »
This Reddit caught my eye because I buy the Costco baguettes all the time. I eat part of them right away while they're still warm, then cut the rest up and put them in ziplock bags and freeze them. When I want one, I take it out and nuke it in the micro, which seems to work pretty well.

In this thread, however, a bunch of people recommended quickly running cold water over the baguette, then doing 10 minutes in the oven or a quick nuke in the micro. The replies seem to indicate that the water really makes them end up like fresh baked. Anyway, I'd never heard of it before and will try it the next time I grab one out of the freezer. I'll try both the micro and the countertop convection oven.

I have heard, but not tried, something similar in using a spray bottle to mist the bread product with water and then heating it.

We nuke it wrapped or covered with a damp hand towel or paper towel (depending on if it’s a whole baguette or just a muffin)
What we have here is failure to communicate.

This.
I've simply tossed a slightly wet paper towel next to a stale bagel on the rotational nukery. I reckon it'd work next to a cup of coffee for that matter.

I have done that for many years on a variety of bakery goods.  You end up "steaming" the bread, both warming and softening it.
