Anybody Ever Sear a Steak With a Propane Torch?
« on: February 26, 2023, 01:43:29 PM »
I just now have a steak in a cast iron pan in the oven. Pre or post searing aside, I have generally just done it by getting the pan real hot on the stovetop.

While searing today, I had the thought of why not use my propane torch to sear it instead? Typing that into the gazoogles actually came up with a lot of hits to food sites that say this is a viable thing. I'm just wondering if anyone here has done it? Regardless, I'm trying it on the next steak.

Man up and get real torches in your kitchen.

Yes, I routinely use a torch for finishing after doing a ribeye steak via sous vide.

Oxy-acetylene or you ain't nothing!
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

I wonder how much extra flavor the propane adds to the steak? :P

That's something I didn't think about and is actually mentioned at Bob's link.
