Knowing nothing about the law in this instance, is it even legal to "pause" a prosecution and take it up again 4 years later? While presidential immunity is a key point here, I would still have concerns that this would set an Atlas Shrugged style precedent about the machine being able to make you a criminal (or not) anytime they feel like it.

For all those that continue to call Trump a "convicted felon", a lawyer on a radio show today (97.1 FM, St. Louis) pointed out that a person that has not been sentenced yet is not actually "convicted".  This lawyer was pointing out that the "tag team" of Bragg and Marchen is unlikely to dismiss these charges as it would mean that Bragg has to give up his "win" and Marchen has never ruled against Bragg in the past, so - - -.
But Trump isn't "convicted" until he is actually sentenced.

I have been telling people that ever since the trial was over. IANAL but my understanding of New York law was until the sentence is passed by a Judge the title of "convict" did not apply even though the "conviction" had taken place in the trial. Also in NY, certain felonies (I think Trump's falls under this) must be sentenced within 12 months so the 4 year hanging over the head talk is just that, talk.

I can see them continuing that manipulation, even if it's eventually tossed by a high court. They don't give a *expletive deleted*it about crimes - they just want to run Trump through the government wringer with time, expenses, etc.

Defense is expensive.

So obvious a strategy, yet it has to be stated in words now and again.
