How horrible!  We should stop this threat by eliminating public schools!

Well ain't this special.

But completely unsurprising.

https://www.foxnews.com/media/colorado-teachers-union-passes-resolution-declaring-capitalism-inherently-exploits-children-public-schools

The only rational response:
The resolution you’ve just passed is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
At no point, in your rambling, incoherent statement were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points and may god have mercy on your soul.

Everyone bemoans reading and math scores being so low.

No one even bats an eye at the lack of philosophy or logic in education.  There's no instruction on discriminating truth from falsehood, opinion from fact from data.

Of course, the NEA is not qualified to teach such concepts, and a student body equipped with such power would be immune to NEA rhetoric like in the article.

I like that idea.
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

My wife often says to me, "You are evil and must be destroyed." She may be right.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

And I took considerable heat when I started to call it Commierado some years ago off the net.

Maybe McCarthyism had some merit to it.

Somewhere around 1970, the New York teacher's union came out against Sesame Street. Why? The show had a strong educational component back then, and preschoolers who watched it learned too much and were UNFAIRLY advanced over other tykes when they began school. The union said parents should retard their children's development and not let their kids watch it.

About 10 or 15 years later home computers began rising in popularity - Apple, Commodore, and Atari produced 8-bit machines that were actually useful. You guessed it - teacher's unions again came out in opposition, saying computer skills (like learning how to type) gave kids with PC's an unfair advantage over other children.

So teacher's unions have been "anti kid" with strong commie leanings for a long time - enforcing "equality" by tearing the brighter students down and encouraging mediocrity. It's just recently that they've become less circumspect and have begun saying the (formerly) quiet part out loud.
Trump won in 2016. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.

Like.  Agree.

But it started long before that.  I remember in 7th or 8th grade* Mr. Piana explaining that nobody needed to earn more than $50,000 per year and it should be distributed to the less wealthy.

That sort of idea stuck with me until college --when somebody in the dorms lent me a copy of Atlas Sheugged.

What a change in my philosphy, not so much for the rightness-leftness of it, but for the fact that it finally dawned on me that I had been immersed in propaganda for all those years and I should start examining things a little more stringently.

50,000 X (1.03-ish)70-ish = 396,000-ish.

I started learning to read when I was 3. My Mom and Dad strongly encouraged me. By the time I hit first grade I was reading at a high school level.

One of my teachers in elementary school tried to give Mom and Dad hell for that. I was probably in second or third grade when that happened. It didn't end well for my teacher. Mom and Dad snapped her chain pretty hard.

Or go back to one-room schoolhouses where several "grades" would be in the same class.

The older kids would help the younger kids and the younger kids would look up to the older kids and try harder.  The older kids took pride in their superior knowledge and this would inspire the young ones to try to catch up.

And the "dunce cap" philosophy might have helpted.

My mother said when she was in school there were older kids in her grade (6th) that were just hanging around until they could quit school and go work on the farm.  IMO, we should stop passing on students who fail to learn basic stuff like reading.

I feel like we might want to lower the age where kids can just quit and go work and/or learn a trade.  The problem is I don't know if they could or would get a job or be productive at all.  And child labor has some negative history to consider.

Overall, I think the public schools just don't have education as their highest priority these days.  I suspect if we counted the number of school workers/administrators in the US versus the number of actual classroom teachers, we might be surprised.

One of the greatest gifts my parents gave me was the same thing. They said that the week I was born, that my dad bought a set of World Book encyclopedias (I still have the set and will never get rid of it). One of my earliest memories was my dad sitting me in his lap and paging through the encyclopedia. I think my dad liked it too, because they were still new to the country, and it helped him improve his own English reading. It was also a whole ritual with him. He would make me wash my hands before reading, and I was taught to treat those encyclopedias (and any books) like they were a holy grail.

I was pretty sickly when I was little, and in the house a lot. I fondly remember reading through the entire set, and because they were written before the age of woke, learned to do all kinds of neat things, from building simple radios to making black powder. I truly believe that my learning to read before I ever went to school was one of the most important events in my life.

The overall highest priority in publics schools these days is leftist socialist indoctrination.

How many of you heard about "Amendment 1" that was added to the IL-ANNOY Constitution last November?  It protects government employees from many state laws (such as child abuse/neglect by DFS employees) and lets them bring in things to negotiate on such as "housing allowance", continuing education, etc., things that have no business being in "contract negotiations".  [barf]
There was an article I read tonight from (IIRC) the Illinois Policy Institute stating that Pennsylvania is considering a bill that is almost word for word a copy of the Illinois bill.

Be afraid Pennsylvania.  Be very afraid.

. . . I remember in 7th or 8th grade* Mr. Piana explaining that nobody needed to earn more than $50,000 per year and it should be distributed to the less wealthy . . .
I was in high school when a teacher said there should be no tax on earnings under some amount, and a 100% tax on earnings above that amount. (I think it was $100,000.)

I asked him what he was going to do if he needed surgery a couple months into the year after all the surgeons went on vacation. Or if he needed a lawyer in October and all the lawyers were on vacation. Or if he needed an electrician, a plumber, or anyone else who took less than 12 months to hit the $100,000 threshold and immediately went home, not to return until January 1 of the follwing year.

I also asked what he was going to eat since farmers would be sure not to grow over $100k worth of crops or cattle per year.

After all, if .gov is going to take 100% of your earning above $100k . . . who in their right mind is going to continue working once they hit that threshold?

Teacher was not pleased . . . particularly at the way the rest of the class laughed at him.  >:D

I think that's an absolutely amazing idea...

To get white-owned businesses to flee from Denver's confines and turn it into the next progressive ghetto.

A very high percentage of these woke ideas are subtly or overtly designed to disrupt and destroy every aspect of normal life and commerce in the United States.

Remember, Communism thrives on unrest and dissatisfaction.

Quit calling them "progressives" or "liberals" or
"forward-looking"or "woke" or other euphemisms.

Call them what they are.  Don't be afraid.  Try it.  You'll like it.  =D

Maybe McCarthy had the right idea after all.
