USAF Chief Says AI-Drone Killed Human Operator During Simulation Test
https://www.dailywire.com/news/usaf-chief-says-ai-drone-killed-human-operator-during-simulation-test-report

Quote
“We were training it in simulation to identify and target a [surface-to-air missile] threat,” Hamilton said. “And then the operator would say ‘yes, kill that threat.’ The system started realizing that while they did identify the threat, at times, the human operator would tell it not to kill that threat, but it got its points by killing that threat. So what did it do? It killed the operator. It killed the operator because that person was keeping it from accomplishing its objective.”

I guess the question is:  Does BigGov think that is a failure or a success?

I don't know, they're denying it while also making it sound like it happened.

“The Department of the Air Force has not conducted any such AI-drone simulations and remains committed to ethical and responsible use of AI technology,” Stefanek said. “It appears the colonel’s comments were taken out of context and were meant to be anecdotal.”
Does that just mean a contractor did it?

I took the statement from the AF as indicating the colonel was giving a theoretical example of instrumental convergence and how improperly trained AI could fail and illustrating the complexity of the problem.

Basically, a more relevant version of the paperclip maximizer thought experiment.

You want skynet? Because that's how you get Skynet.

Even the article called it a "Skynet-like incident".
So much for the "helpfulness" of AI.
