Just more proof that the people who think we are all a bunch of stupid country hicks are a bunch of stupid urban hicks who know little of the outside world.

Away from the enlightened urban bodega havens, we have... Walmart.

Seems also like every article that mentions "southern poverty," 99% of them written by progressive people who rarely leave their bodega havens, are illustrated by photos from the 1930s...

While actually living worse than the people they call poor due to paying $5,000 a/month rent for a 1 BR apartment and all other general expenses being far higher.

I wonder how many people remember that all this inflation affects government revenue from sales taxes and real property taxes.

We're having a real estate tax kerfuffle here in Colorado and I haven't heard anything about that.  You think the increased revenue from increasing Real Estate values is being forgotten by TPTB?  Wanna buy a bridge in Brooklyn?

The difference is that in a bodega the people behind the counter only speak Spanish, whereas in other shitty, over-priced convenience stores the people behind the register speak Pakistani or Arabic.
IMO, the Dollar General is probably the equivalent outside major cities (might depend on the region).  The workers there generally speak 'Merican which may also be hard to understand.

"This has been a thing for over 20 years."

Just 20 years?

I remember gas stations with attached restaurantettes from when I was a kid in the 1970s.

It ain't just the South baby !  I remember seeing (and eating) at some of those places on a family trip out West in the mid-60s.  :old:  =D

I should have mentioned that I was seeing those places in the North East when I was a kid. I grew up in Pennsylvania.
