"Bottled or bagged kraut is better than from cans."

That is where I will most heartily disagree with you.

I've had more than my fair share of fresh chilled bagged sauerkraut that is just terrible. No saltiness, no tang, no nothing. Basically tasteless cabbage shreds in a bag.

Same with canned.

Same with bottled.

The delivery system doesn't make OR break the contents. Only the contents can do that. If the contents are bad in one delivery system, they're not going to be made magically good by another delivery system.

When I still was at PACCAR I came in one Monday morning.  Noticed a distinct odor of decomposition.  Mind you, with my parkinson's nose it had to be paint peeling strong for me to notice.  Sorta to myself I wondered what died over the weekend.  Eventually the guy on other side of the cubicle wall admitted it was his homemade sauerkraut he was eating for breakfast. He never brought that crap in again.

I frequently bring sauerkraut to the office for lunch, especially in the winter and just after New Year's.

The only thing anyone has ever said to me is how good it smells.
