I suspect the "all men are created equal" of the Declaration of Independence has been distorted to authorize "wealth distribution" and the other appealing "gimmes" of America's growing socialism / communism.

That was written when many countries had pretty much all-powerful monarchs and was meant to counter the prevalent notion of Deity-derived absolute royal authority, in my opinion.

I suspect a modern phrasing of it would be "all persons are created with equal opportunity"... not that they are all actually created equal.

This is a terrifying thought to some who believe they are deserving of and entitled to all the same benefits and trappings of wealthier people.  There would no longer be an "average" anything, wealth, property, number of kids, type of car... we would all be ant-like, uniform to the core.

Indeed, "equal."

Equality like many other bastardizations of words and terms by the Libtard Leftists, has been redefined as Equity.  What LL's fail to mention that equity is really the reduction to the lowest common denominator.  The argument for Equity in human terms would be better defined as reductio ad absurdum

I guess reductio ad medius, bringing everyone to the average, might be better.  Great for all the below average people and nations and awful for all those above average. This is what 'Equity" really means.

Absurd, but current propaganda presents that as a good thing.  It's also called communism, but as usual, the commies have introduced semantically-neutral words to cover their real goals.  "Equity" is a good example .  "Progressive" used to be the normal soft-touch euphemism for "Commie" but people are slowly getting wise to that one.
