Interesting.

My version is 115.xx.xxx...

And it's telling me that it's up to date.

I guess that explains it. Time to see how I can force an update.

Ver. 115.12.0esr and it too is "up to date".
And YES, I'm having problems with youtube as well.  And this is also a Win. 7 system.  Part of my problem is I'm on AT&T DSL and I'm so far out from the CO, the last tech I had out here said that, if I give it up for something faster (Spectrum cable  [barf]), I'd never get it back as they have "shortened" the distance they are willing to take DSL now and I'm ~17K feet out and IIRC, the new limits are ~14-15K.  I'm lucky if my downloads get 1mbps.
A new company (I3 broadband) laid fiber-optic through our front yards last summer but I'm not sure they are active yet.  From what I read on their website, their minimum program is $40/mth. but I don't remember the speed.  But it is only internet - no TV or phone.

Wish me luck. I'm trying to do the Windows 10 RE-upgrade on my desktop.

We'll see if it can find the old key I used a couple of years ago.

If not, I guess I'm boned.

As I said before if 10 was installed previously it will find the key on MSs severs on its own

Every Win10 upgrade I've ever done, the system found the key on the MS servers automagically.  On rare occasions years ago I had some trouble with WinXP and Win7 installs, but a phone call to MS customer service cleared that up each time. As long as the computer is connected to the Internet, you should be fine.

You could go ahead an install 11 if you wished to go that route. It will activate automatically using your W10 key

My system is 13 years old. I'm suspecting that it will barely run 10... I can't imagine how it would react to being asked to run 11.

Actually runs slightly smoother than 10 on my 15 year old Acer and a 16 year old Dell. 11 handles memory and other resources better. YT videos use less CPU for example in my experience.
Acer is a AMD Phenom II X4 925 with 8gb of ram.
Dell is Q6600 with 8gb

The year is 4735....

WLJ just upgraded his 2,500 year old computer to Windows Millennium Falcon Solo Vader version 6.5.

Help me, Obiwan, I need tech support!

You think I'm kidding don't you? It actually does run a bit smoother than 10 on those old machines. First time I'm seen a new OS from MS, or really anybody, do that. And except for a software issue that was VMWare's fault, bad VMWare update, it's been perfectly stable.

Windows 11 is less of a resource hog.  I'm going to put it on an older machine since the upgrade process doesn't wipe existing software.

"You think I'm kidding don't you?"

No, Lord WLJ, I think it's your sad devotion to that ancient computer...

HEY! NO FORCE CHOKING MY BANDWIDTH!

Jesus, dude. Jokes. You get jokes, right?

I think it's admirable that you've kept your computers running that long. I'm happy that mine has been running as long as it has been, but as I mentioned in another thread, it's starting to get a bit glitchy, and a number of my IT friends have pointed to the likely cause of a growing issue with the mother board or one of its components.

So, reupgrading to 10 is just an exercise in buying some more time. And also to try to get my goddamned Canon printer/scanner working again.

Otherwise, I heard that Microsoft is coming out with a Wookie update in 4738. But some people might find it to be kind of hairy to install.

A lot of people , me included, and for good reason assume that it's usually the norm that the next OS ver up is going to use more resources and slow the computer down. 11 bucks the norm in this and actually uses less.
Those old computers are still quite usable but messing around with old computer is hobby of mine.
BTW: My main computer is a AMD Ryzen 5 5600G build maybe a year or so old so I'm exactly handling on to old equipment

Well, so far so good. No issues that I've found other than the generalized fact that I'm not, and never have been, crazy about Windows 10.

At least the magic smoke hasn't been released. Yet.

Speaking of which, I need to get bids to armor that thermal exhaust port...

Welp, looks like my Canon all in one is finally on the outs.

It's always been a bit of the pain in the ass, but with the upgrade to Windows 10 it still prints, but it no longer scans.

It was always a bit balky on scanning. For a long time it would give me TWAIN source errors, but I managed to work around it.

No longer. Absolutely refuses to scan no matter what i do. But it still prints for some reason.

And, it's no longer supported so no new drivers from Canon.

Maybe I'll just keep it as a printer and just get a simple scanner.

Unless you need some sort of specialized scanner IMHO not worth the $ and just buy a new all in one.

That's what I would do. All in ones - even lasers - are pretty inexpensive these days. Plus scanning - especially multipage stuff - is way faster and easier to do compared to a flatbed scanner.

Yeah, most of the scanning I do is documents. For the time being I'm just going to scan stuff at the office on the big production model we have.
