We have several people here who have or have had various Secret clearances.  Today I Learned that if you have hearing aids and work in a SCIF, there are such things as SCIF-approved hearing aids.

Any medical device that you take into the SCIF (or SAPF) has to be approved.  My DBS system had to be approved. Partly because it's Bluetooth enabled.

I'd have to check the paperwork again, but yes, hips, knees, and certainly anything electronic.

Yes.

Although with things like hips and knees (and the plates holding my arm together) it's a pretty cursory scan of the records to make sure what you are saying is in there is what is in there, and not some Bond Villan moment.

Electronic medical devices have to be on the list of preapproved devices, and (I think, I don't have one) they do a quick look see, or have a Doc sign that it is real, and unmodified.

All of which is kinda ironic, because the elected or appointed officals usually gmail whatever the briefing was to their staffers as soon as they get their phone back.

Does have to be pre-approved. That speeds the process but isn't required. My DBS system hadn't been seen by them before.  So they to check on it before approving it.  But, as long as you can't store classified data on it (and mine can only store the srimulation settings, and info on device performance/health) it's not a big deal.

Yes there are. My coworker has them. He was career Air Force and did a LOT of flying (He taught SEER, so he had a LOT of parachute jumps) so his hearing is pretty bad.

His hearing aids are configured to work with his phone, and that was a problem for awhile because they customer was very leery of approving them. IIRC it took about 4 months for them to be approved. We just had to shout at him during that time.

Yep, because my coworker jumped out of airplanes for a long time, he's got two new knees and a new hip courtesy of the VA. He's had to provide a lot of background paperwork for every cleared job he's held.

It was a bit more of a problem when he joined our program because his hearing aides were new and blue tooth enable, and he was one of the first people with that particular model to work for our customer. That's why it took about 4 months.
