Going back to the Main Topic, I watched Hickok's video and the phrase he was looking for was "Draft Avoidance." Perfectly legit but many will shame you for "not doing your duty" and such BS.
I might not last very long or be very effective but I'll be a real pain in the ass for a minute!

There was a gap when they suspended mandatory registration.
I missed that gap - when I turned 18 I still had to register. IIRC some of the notes that came with the draft card (actually just a printed piece of paper) said something about always carrying it with me. I might have for a year or two, but never was I asked about it.

I seem to remember my Dad saying someone from the draft board called his parent's house looking for him so he went and joined the army.  Does that amount to "draft avoidance" also?

I suppose. That's what happened to me. I enlisted before they could draft me.
