Unusual computer glitch
« on: September 29, 2024, 06:01:01 AM »
Just tried to install a desktop publishing program called Spring Publisher. It has been around for a long time and gets decent reviews. I downloaded the file from CNET, so I think it's valid.

But I can't install it. It's an .msi file. It starts to run, I go through agreeing the the EULA, I get the pop-up asking if I really and truly want to allow this software to install itself on my system, I tell it to proceed -- and I get a pop-up telling me that installation of this program has been blocked by an administrator, contact an administrator for more information.

This is my personal Windows 10 computer. I am the only administrator, and I'm quite certain I haven't told my computer not to allow installation of Spring Publisher.

What's going on? I have never encountered this particular error message before.

Sounds like you may be logged on to a regular or guest user account, not administrator.  If you right click on the .msi, does it give you the option of, "Run as Administrator"?  If it does, try that.
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

My wife often says to me, "You are evil and must be destroyed." She may be right.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

Try right click the msi, then "run as administrator".

Publisher appears defunct.  Not seeing any downloads that aren't from that sort of download site (which I don't really trust, anyway).

"Run as administrator" was the first thing I tried when the initial installation failed. Same result. And this is MY computer. I only have two user accounts (both me), and both are admins.

I've deleted the download from my system. I'd like to see what the program looks like, but I don't need it so (for once) I'm not going to obsess over not being able to install it.

If you're needing Desktop Publishing, Pagestream still exists.  I remember it from the Atari ST days, way the heck back when.

WOW!

That's one I've never even heard of ... and I thought I was doing a decent job of keeping track. I'll check it out -- thanks.
