Jimmy Dean brand bacon.
« on: October 24, 2024, 04:19:36 PM »
Hickory smoked.

Picked up a pack to make my Cowboy beans. Broke it open to cook a couple of slices to go on top of a turkey burger the other night.

Very disappointing.

Not much flavor at all and is so freaking thinly sliced that it's almost chipped.

Cross that one off the list in the future.

We used to buy bags of ends and pieces at Walmart some years ago.  It was really good bacon.  Haven't had it in some time since my wife's heart problems.  Don't know if they still sell it.
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

My wife often says to me, "You are evil and must be destroyed." She may be right.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

I always figured a company to cheap to come up with new advertising rather than to keep using their guy that has been dead for years is probably too cheap to roll out a decent and competitive product. Kind of like the resurrection of Billy May shilling stuff on TV recently.

The last box of ends and pieces I bought wasn't very good.  (I don't know what brand it was)  Way too much water cooked out.  42 ounce package didn't yield all that much cooked bacon.

I bought some thick-sliced cheap bacon recently, $2.99 for a 1 pound package, at a local supermarket and was surprised how good it was.  I fried 3 slices to make a BLT, and *grease* cooked out instead of water.  (a little water collected on top of the slices but not much)  Two slices would have been enough for the sandwich.  I should buy a few more pounds and put it in the freezer...
"It's good, though..."

I like their sausage, but as I said, the bacon is disappointing.

I will add that the grease that rendered out of what I cooked was pure bacon grease. I left it in the pan and cooked my burger with it.

When I make my cowboy beans this weekend I'm going to cook the rest of the 12 ounce pack, render everything I can, and pull off most of it for later use. I'll keep in the pan only enough to sweat the onions and brown the turkey.

Never heard of it, but it looks like the local Wally World carries it.

It's hard to find but the brand "Farmland" has both plain "pork sausage" but sometimes they have "pork & bacon sausage".
As it comes in 12 oz. chubs, break it up and "cook" in a microwave.  Then you have about 10 oz. of sausage to mix into other dishes.

Honestly I’m finding Walmart’s store brand bacon to be better than a lot of the major traditional brands. Sam’s bacon is good too.

When we want really good bacon I go to fresh market or a butcher and get it but bacon for burgers, recipes, or quick meals it’s pretty good.
