=D Thank you for all your suggestions !  I have made notes for future reference on what I can try.  ;)

I ran a load with jeans and bath towels through it yesterday and the bloody machine ran the full 80 minutes without a hitch.

Thanks again for your advice.

So... you're sad that it's looking more like it was a temporary glitch and hasn't repeated?

OK, then! Our heartfelt condolences that your current dryer is continuing to perform adequately and isn't costing you a ton of money all at once.

I suggest you prepare a backup if your intermittent problems surface again.

Heh. My parents didn't even have a dryer until maybe the late 60's, then it was rarely used. Clothes always went on the clothes line except in inclement weather. I always like the "fresh air smell", even if the clothes were not quite as soft feeling as after going through the dryer.

Since then, I have never had the opportunity to hang clothes. While working, I was in a condo, and now, I could easily hang clothes 2/3 of the year, but for the fact that there is always the chance of wind kicking up dust from the fields that all settles on the clothes.

I'd love to put my wash out on a line for the same reason. No room, unfortunately.

When I get into my retirement house, though, I will have outdoor clothes lines.

There is NOTHING better than sleeping on sheets that have been dried in fresh air and sun.

I bought my dryer in 1996.  A Maytag washer/dryer set.  The washer crapped out about 5 years ago.  The old Maytag is still working okay.

I heard Maytag was sold off and the quality went to crap a while back which is sad.

My washing machine is an Amana professional series with the stainless steel drum. Exwife and I bought it in 1994 when the washer that came with the house blew the transmission. Got it for a really good price on sale from Montgomery Ward.

The dryer is a Maytag commercial size that I bought from Castle Key when he upgraded to a high efficiency set. It's well over 20 years old and is still working just fine. The one cycle slot on the mechanical dial has crapped out, but I just use a different cycle. I did replace the drum rollers and idler arm assembly a few years ago.

I think partially. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I have the Maytag Commercial Home series, and it seems to be a different part of the company. They came highly recommended and so far seem to be meeting the promises. They are made in the USA with a ten year warranty, unlike the normal residential line. They also have plain old analog dials and very minimal electronics. Which I'm not a Luddite, but there are certain things that I don't need to be stuffed full of electronics and 1000 features and settings.

That's what I USED to do in the summertime - when I could stand up straight.  I have a carport with 5 vertical posts and had screw-eyes and hooks stretching from the back corner of the house and around all the posts to the front one where I tied it off.  Now that I walk around like a Chinese coolie carrying a heavy yoke, I can't stand straight enough or long enough to hang laundry.  =(  :old:
