Another THR member "Live Life" migrating to APS
« on: November 29, 2024, 04:10:13 PM »
Hello.

Another new member migrating from THR.

I was "LiveLife" - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?members/livelife.113916/#recent-content

Already liking and enjoying the threads and look forward to spending my retirement here.  =)

BTW, I am supporter of Oleg Volk and reason why I came to APS from THR instead of fading into afterlife.

Retirement...

Is that code for you got banned?

I got banned at THR years ago. Then I got unbanned, but never really went back.

Welcome aboard, both of you.

I see many names here that I haven't seen at THR in awhile.

Good to see familiar people.

Is it still a requirement that new members watch all sixteen episodes of the TV series "Firefly" and the movie "Serenity"?  It used to be new members were shunned until they got with the programming.
In any event, welcome aboard to both of you.

Also fan of Star Trek, Stargate and related genre shows.

Oh no.  I left voluntarily as my wife of 30 years told me life is too short to dance with ugly people. For some reason, she is usually right, even when she is wrong.

Welcome to both of you! Hopefully you are both cranky curmudgeons. It will greatly ease your transition.  =D

Was there some kind of kerfuffle on THR? I haven't been there in forever.

After a couple PM's, I told him that I felt like I was being stalked all over the board.

No biggie, I'm still there, I like the semi knife forum. I just keep my ring camera on my back for spies.

Thanks for the welcome.

After 30 years of marriage, I am too tired and exhausted from endless "honey do" projects.  After retirement of 5 years, I learned in retirement, you just get "tired" over and over and over ...  =D

Let's just say THR moderation is not what it used to be.  Instead of resolving member disagreements/arguments within the thread discussion, threads are simply closed/locked with "Thread has ran its course" with heavy handedness for any discussion approaching "political".  I ultimately left because I felt "muzzled" and wanted to exercise my First Amendment right of free speech.

Glad recognition of free speech is alive and well on this forum ... kudos to Oleg.

Surprisingly, THR moderator Frank Ettin clarified lawyer vs layperson approach to case ruling and inspired this "layperson" to delve deeper.

It was eye opening to track and support over 12 2A/ATF related threads reading all the case rulings running hundreds of pages translating to easier/simpler "layperson" bullet points - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/scotus-considering-bianchi-v-frosh-duncan-v-bonta-the-turning-point-for-aw-magazine-ban.905531/post-12956944

Welcome Live Life.  I'm another fan of your legal posts on THR, even though the mods don't seem to like the opinions of those who are not a members of the esteemed bar.

After clarifying with moderator Frank Ettin, I decided to move "layperson" opinion/comment threads from "Legal" to "General" subcategory with bulleted highlights to not violate the copyright rule.

In time, I will run what I did at THR regarding copyright issue by APS admin/mods and may resume Second Amendment related threads here.

I am a newbie to APS and getting used to the forum.

THR? I rarely go there any more. A certain moderator in the Legal forum was in the habit of simply deleting the posts of people who got the better of him in a debate.

That's why I stopped starting threads in "Legal".  But when I explained what my intent was (Definitely pro-2A based), Frank actually explained and clarified the difference between "Legal" lawyer speak requirement and if I was using "layperson" approach, to do so in "General" subcategory so I moved all my threads to "General" and no problem.  But yes, hard thread closures with minimal explanation will seem "harsh".

Still in "General", I tried mostly to be objective/factual linking directly to court documents and rulings instead of being subjective/opinions.  And when I was posting my personal opinions/comments or clarification of rulings, I put the disclaimer, "I am not a lawyer, just a random layperson".

Give me a chance to get through mountain of goodbye PMs at THR and get familiar with APS.

And I do need to clear with APS mods/admin bulleted highlighting method of posting articles/transcripts to not violate copyright rules.

Stay tuned.

I haven't been on THR in any meaningful capacity for a long count of years.  Probably at least 15 by now.  Shortly after APS got up and running, however long ago that was.
