The main thing that I remembered of Carter post- Presidency was him "observing" elections in 3rd world countries and certifying the elections.  He was President before I was really aware of politics so I have little memory of that time.

I am not sure if I would call him the worst President or not.  I would need to see a better list of "accomplishments" to judge by.  My view of the job the Bush's did keeps falling lower and lower.

As a person, he seems a lot more decent than a lot of the politicians in recent years.

The Carter presidency was far enough back I don't have real clear recollection of it.  I do remember the Carter-Reagan race, and how Jimmy Earl got totally smoked.  And how the UIUC campus where I was working was deathly silent the morning after.  That was "delicious".

Just found out that the USPS will be closed down Jan 9 (no deliveries) to "honor" Jimmy Carter.
Trump won in 2016. And again in 2024. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.

It's been declared a federal holiday, so no surprise there.

The day of Reagan's funeral was also a Fed holiday.

So they're honoring him by ... doing nothing?

Seems appropriate.

Some on the left are making a big deal out of the fact flags will be at mast for Trump's inauguration

Trump may have been the one that started it but I am not sure of the timeline.

Quote
President-elect Donald Trump lashed out Friday over plans for the U.S. flag to be flown at half-staff during his upcoming inauguration to honor the late President Jimmy Carter ‒ but the White House said it isn't reconsidering the order.

Consider the source. ;)

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2025/01/03/trump-fumes-flag-half-staff-carter-inauguration/77436106007/

I don't know what the big deal is, it is not the first time the flags have been at half mast for a significant event. If you look closely at the Season one opening credits of that historical document (video) "Gilligan's Island" you can see that the flag on shore was at half mast as they depart Ala Wai Harbor to begin their ill fated tour.

 ;)  =D

I hadn't heard that, but is there some Carter significance to 20JAN? Otherwise, given the other petty crap they have done, I wouldn't put it past them to have picked the day just to push their "end of democracy" agenda.

It just falls within the 30 day period that has been designated as the period flags will be at half mast to honor Jimmy Carter. It isn't anything personal, if the Biden admin wanted to make it personal they would have designated Jan 20th as the official day of mourning.

Yep, it's a 30 days thing but some are finding amusing they will be at half mast on J20

...

"Human Rights" was Jimmy's reasoning . . . Rhodesian chrome bad. But at the same time, Ugandan coffee good. (Idi Amin, a self-proclaimed cannibal, was ruling Uganda back then. It seems to me that eating people is a pretty serious human rights violation.)

Had to stifle a laugh at that one.

Except for the publicity, there wasn't any more good that came out of his Habitat For Humanity activity  than from any the other nail-bangers and saw-pushers active on the projects.  Without looking at it in detail, I suspect it would have been better to build six-unit Condos than single-family houses where possible.
