A fake hand flopping around sounds a great way to foul a draw when you are already having to deal with bulky cover garments like the suit coat.

Also you’d probably see them flub and drop the fake hand now and then.

If that were a common practice, wouldn't we have footage of fake hands flopping around after the detail has drawn their guns?

I think it's more likely they're just keeping their hands in a position to begin the draw. I could see myself doing that just to keep myself from absent-mindedly slipping my hands into my pockets.

Heh... If I am standing with my hands in my pockets, I just saw something that cranked up the paranoia... Wintertime, the J-frame is in a vest pocket, and the G43 is in the right front pants pocket. If I'm REALLY paranoid, the G19 is under the shirt...

I don't think they are using a fake hand.  It's just a pretty common way to have your hands ready for action.  You can grap someone, or go for a draw very quickly.  Also if you index your hands at the same spot all the time, it'll significantly speed up you draw.

When I was doing PSD stuff in Iraq we all stood like that with our hands not clasped, just in front of us. So we could grab a hajji, or go for a weapon quickly.

If you talk to a cop on the street, they'll often do the same thing.

One commenter who claims to have a family member in the secret service posted hands are held in such position as to move the jacket out of the way to quickly draw weapon if need arises.

That is what I was thinking.  I imagine they are also wearing coats that are over-sized to cover larger weapons.  I think that adds to the illusion of them being fake.
