New micro is in and installed. I gave up the man card and let Best Buy do it. I'm getting too old to stand on a step ladder balancing the micro in one arm while trying to run screws over the top with the other. That's a pulled back muscle waiting to happen. The two fellers that did it were done in 30 minutes and did a nice job.
While time will tell, the LG looks like it will do the job. The text on the outside of the door is clear and easy to read for old guy eyes without readers. There is a "quick menu" inside the door for things like one touch reheats for dinner plates, etc., which I used a lot on the old one, but that darn text has no contrast with the background. I have to wear glasses for it or else I'll probably just memorize the couple of settings I will use.
I have to say that as some of you who posted here, I don't "cook" with the micro per se, but I sure did miss it for six days. I realized just how much I use it for stuff like quickly rewarming a cup of coffee or heating water for tea. Or else cooking oatmeal or warming leftovers without having to deal with pans. The micro has spoiled me.
I will say that one thing I "cook" with the micro is bacon. I have become a big fan of microwaved bacon. I put a couple of paper towels on a plate, lay the bacon on them, cover with two more paper towels, and cook on high at one minute per slice of thick cut. It comes out exactly how I like it every time, and the paper towels absorb all the excess bacon fat. If I use a paper plate, then the whole shebang goes in the trash after the bacon is removed and zero cleanup with no splatter in the oven.
