Legacy mainstream media gatekeeping free speech and days of agenda driven "news" reporting is coming to an end for the White House press room.

At 5:45 minute of video, Trump press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced addition of "New Media", the voices of next generation of voters who rely more on podcasts, blogs and social media for news to the White House press room - https://youtu.be/Q_95HJLFAxI?t=345

I can just picture Joe Rogan and Tim Pool sitting at the front of press room asking questions many of us want to ask.

This White House believes strongly in the First Amendment.

So it's why our team will work diligently to restore the Press passes of the 440 journalists whose passes were wrongly revoked by the previous administration.

We're also opening up this briefing room to New Media voices, who produced news related content and whose outlet is not already represented by one of the seats in this room.

We welcome independent journalists, podcasters, social media influencers and content creators to apply for credentials to cover this White House.

Starting today, this seat in the front of the room which is usually occupied by the press secretary staff, will be called the "New Media seat". My team will review the applications and give credentials to New Media applicants who meet our criteria and pass US Secret Service requirements to enter the White House complex.

So, in light of these announcements, our first questions for today's briefing will go to these New Media members whose outlets, despite being some of the most viewed news websites in the country, have not been given seats in this room.

But the biggest challenge to the mainstream media ... she's also inviting podcasters, bloggers, social media influencers ... alternative media content creators ... announcement is a a game changer and a sign that the mainstream media will no longer be able to use their gatekeeping power to constrain the range of acceptable commentary and questioning that takes place in that briefing room

I always thought it seemed weird that some journalists acted like they were being heroic in badgering a press secretary that was often just repeating what they were told or allowed to say.  No one cares but them.  Trump's administrations have been able to pick people that are pushing back on that nonsense at least.

The logistics of this will certainly be interesting to see unfold.  Will it be Joe Rogan himself, or a producer or associate from his show that acts as a proxy?

The WH Press Corps is generally assigned to the WH 24/7 aren't they?  You can't have a vlogger/blogger or faux influencer celeb hanging out at the WH Briefing Room constantly.

Kayleigh McEnany was the most formidable press secretary I remember - one time after a reporter in the press room asked her a "gotcha" question, she responded accurately with aplomb in a way that turned the topic back on the reporter. As she left the podium, you could hear the reporter's beta-male voice whining "You were prepared for that!" 

Based on her initial performance, Karoline Leavitt looks as if she'll be every bit as tough to flummox as Kayleigh. I think I'm going to enjoy the legacy media tears over the next four years.

(And . . . so much for "dumb blonde" stereotypes.)

Years ago, reporters were talking to Bess Truman and asked her if she could get her husband Harry to stop using the word "manure" as a descriptor. Her response was something along the lines of it took her years to get him to use "manure" instead of another word, and she wasn't going to push her luck.
