If you like KFC ...
« on: February 08, 2025, 06:39:51 PM »
This seasoning blend was formulated by Marion Kay Spices under direction by none other than the Colonel himself. It resulted in a lawsuit by KFC against Marion Kay Spices, resulting in a minor reformulating and renaming of the blend.

I made fried chicken tonight using it and it in fact is about as close to KFC as one could expect without owning a pressurized fryer.

For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

That is a lot of money for that spice mix.

I think I'll just keep mixing my own when I fry chicken.

Stupid stupid stupid.

You're only supposed to take out loans to afford eggs!

In my defense, 9-1/2 oz of spices is a lot, it will take a long while to burn through it all. I'm not frying chicken all that often and I'm not feeding a family.

I'm going to experiment with baking the chicken next. My hot wings/drumsticks are baked and turn out good. This mix should work using the same technique.

For the $9 you get enough to season 15 birds, according to the site recipe:
Quote
Each package, when sifted with 5 lbs of flour, provides breading for approximately 15 average-sized chickens. For a single chicken, simply combine 1 1/2 tbsp. of seasoning with one cup of flour.

It came in a typical spice container also, not a package or bag as it seems to indicate.

And they keep the bugs down.  We had about 10 chickens on our little farm.  I used to like them puttering around while I did yard and parking lot stuff.  As far as I can surmise, my activities tended to stir up the bugs, so there was no "friendship" involved in their hanging around while I worked.

I had my wits shaken up once when a bird suddenly flapped right past me and snatched a flying bug out of midair.   I kiddingly mentioned once before that I thought it would have taken a battleship's firing computer to figure out mutual trajectories and the midair intersection point between the bird's beak and the bug.

A good story deserves retelling. After all, that's how we got the Bible.

I know, I know, but I actually agree it was expensive for a bottle of spices.
