Yep, Spring is almost here
« on: March 04, 2025, 10:21:38 AM »
Solid blowing dust outside. Northwest wind 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 60 mph. Ahhhh... Spring on the Llano Estacado.

High winds with much higher gusts, drought conditions, and single-digit dewpoints. Extreme range fire risk. Multiple rural power providers cutting power to non-essential circuits as a precaution. At least temps are moderate so loss of A/C won't be an issue. I saw lots of tree branches down this morning on the way to work. Every tree service in town is pretty much booked. Those that aren't are prowling neighborhoods.

Yup, we had the big winds yesterday. Today is beautifully calm though. I was checking my records, and last year (which was a very unusually windy year) at this time I had shingles blow off the house, which was the first time that ever happened to me. I'm hoping we go back to average blowy winds this year, which is annoying, but not damaging.

50's with rain and wind. Goes to a blizzard warning tonight. I think I'm going to run to the store and buy all the milk and toilet paper.

Got just under a quarter inch of rain this morning. Now sunny and WINDY, dewpoint is 19F, which is abnormally low for around here (just west of Austin, TX). Nearly all they're talking about on the local news is "increasing wildfire danger" interspersed with warnings about possible downed power lines. If not for all the pollen and other schmutz in the air, it would be a great day to open windows and air out the house.

Lots of rain forecast here Wednesday, with thunderstorms mixed in.  Also under a wind advisory through tomorrow with the passage of a cold front.

Not bad here (NW Denver subbies) rain, snow, driving bad, but all gone this afternoon.

But a couple of weeks ago it went to 20 below on my Taylor outdoor themometer for a couple of days... almost a week.  Thought about how critters coped with that... migrations, lower elevations, hibernation, I recall reading that mosquitos had antifreeze in their systems ( ?! ).

But there's this squirrel who runs back and forth along the fence railing in back, have seen him or it literally dozens of times, sometimes two or three times in a day.  Don't know where he's going to and from or why.

Saw him this afternoon.

He no longer had ears.

It was high 50s when I walked out of the house at 5:30.

Forecast later today is for high wind gusts and possibly severe storms. Whee!

Forecast for tomorrow is high winds with higher gusts.

Stayed too warm for the snow to stick but have some ice. The wind. It ripped the Wi-Fi antenna off the cabin and took some roofs off and trees down in the surrounding areas.

Typical Idaho "multiple false Springs" going on here. A nice calm day today, and I'm just getting ready to start a list of outside stuff I need to get done because tomorrow is 40mph wind gusts all day with possible snow.

Yesterday in St. Louis, temps were about 35.  Today, they had wind gusts in the mid-50s and a hi of 53.  Off and on, it sounded like a jet engine over my house today.
