Another Flag Officer Bites the Dust

She must have thought she could get away with it like a civilian could. The headline is about the portraits, but it appears she did other stuff as well.

Saw that last night. Certain media outlets are either only mentioning the portraits or burying the other stuff deep in the articles

I'd like  a verifiable source of the portrait thing. No one is that dumb.  I  thought a lot about continuing my service when Obama came along but I decided the system would keep him in line and I wasn't going to follow unlawful orders anyway.  And his portrait went up as soon as we had it, no defacement,  that's the new boss, same as the old boss.

I'm so contrarian that I didn't respond to the thread.

Doing public actions like refusing to hang portraits and making comments at an "All Hands" meeting is not the best way to "wait them out for 4 years".  You do that by staying under the radar, not by attracting attention.

I think the closest to actual confirmation you will see is this:  https://x.com/SeanParnellUSA/status/1909800029654860192

The official DOD Rapid Response account reposted that without even attempting to correct the picture claim.  It's, at most, tacit confirmation.  Officially it was "loss of confidence in her ability to lead".  Unless someone taped that All Hands meeting, that's what you're going to get.

I wonder what she did to earn Admiral's rank . . .
Trump won in 2016. And again in 2024. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.

I wonder what the congressman's response would have been had someone refused to hang the official Biden portrait.

Or, God forbid, Obama's presidential portrait.

I worked at State during the Obama administration and had to endure that divisive ahole, and his horrid harpy of a Sec. State, looking down on me every day.

Don't congresscritters have their own photo posted in their Washington office and in their home state field offices? I wonder what Ms. Crockett's attitude would be if the staff in one of her offices refused to display her official portrait photo -- or maybe refused to put it on her web site.

It would be racist of course

I caused my family (in-laws) group chat to go silent for 36 hours and counting.  They were all up in arms over this firing and how it was unfair, ego driven, and mysoginistic.

I said:  "I am an Officer in the Army.  So you guys would be cool if you elect a CinC whose policies I don;t like that I can just ignore the chain of command?  I can order my troops to just stonewall and wait them out?  Civilian control of the military is just if the troops agree with the policies?  I just want to clarify:  I have Arms Room access.  How many machine guns should I use to counteract civilian leadership policies I don't agree with?"

There's a reason the military is supposed to STFU about politics, and a WHOLE BUNCH of our senior officers need to relearn it.

There may be a lot of truth to that. There's "about" 1 general or flag officer for every 1400 troops today; during WWII, the ratio was about 1 for every 6000. So our peacetime military has proportionately over 4x as much brass as our wartime military did. And even during WWII and Vietnam, people "in the know" (like Chesty Puller) were saying that the military bureaucracy was top heavy.

I can see having more career sergeants - in an emergency callup you need a training cadre. But I suspect much of the brass would be . . . unhelpful.

Hence why I said "another officer" and not "another flag officer".

And another base Commander who is yet another woman. She turned the Trump and Hegseth portraits around so they're facing the wall. I expect she'll be out by tomorrow.
