Could this woman go on a commercial airline?  I ask as, IIRC, they only pressurize to 7,500 ft. and she would probably have had a problem.

I thought they pressurized for higher than that, but in either case, you're not climbing to that altitude, the plane is while you're just sitting there.

Yeah, I "picked  up" the 10K feet from where they try to get down to in a hurry if there's a decompression. It's not the cabin altitude pressure in normal flight.

Repiies #13 and #14  clarified for me whether the issue was the canyon rim being at 7000 feet altitude (which it is more or less), versus her being afraid of the height of the rim above the bottom in terms of "altitude sickness."

As I said, that latter would have been a chuckleable "altitude sickness" joke.

I got vertigo looking down from the Royal Gorge Bridge or Rim to the Arkansas River below, some 1250 feet (381m, 8.8 Mississippis) down.  But then I was always leery of heights. Even this photograph gives me the whizzies in my head.  Them there railroad tracks is a fur piece down.

....
If I traveled by air, even several days after arrival in SLC or Bozeman, I've got headache, nosebleeds - and most recently, dizzy spells - at 9000, even with rigorous hydration and little exertion
....

Any prescriptions lately that warn about dizziness?  I've had 2-1/2 falling incidents recently and on review of my Rxes I found several which warn "MAY CAUSE DIZZINESS."

Kinda sets your mind to thinking maybe, hmmmm, as they say, "the greatest danger to the elderly is in falling."

Hmmm... Terry rubs chin, scratches head, looks at ceiling in thought...

It also kinda sets your mind to thinking maybe 2 + 2 =  approximately 4 or thereabouts, often enough to almost be a rule.

I must speak to my DO on that matter next appointment.  I've been bellyaching about being dizzy for quite a while now.

meds make you dizzy?
It's entirely possible.  I'll look more closely at that. Thanks!

I'm currently on enough prescription meds that I describe myself as a walking pharmacology experiment. Most of them say, buried in the fine print that nobody ever reads, "May cause dizziness."

The VA cardiologist just added another one to the mix. I picked it up on Friday from the on-campus pharmacy. There's a red warning tape across the top of the pill bottle:

"WARNING - MAY CAUSE DIZZINESS"

I guess this time they mean it ...

Heh.  It's on a couple of my Rx bottles like that ^.

Image gleaned from the net, not actually one of my Rxes which also have the warning  in boldface.  Image by ALAMY.

I am once again prompted to thinking about how many of all those dangerous elderly falls are actually due to the elderlies' prescriptions.

Yes, but it takes a while to get used to having to do that and to recognize the pre-fall feelings.  In 2 of the 2 1/2 falls I was carrying something and not using my cane.  I was using it in the "1/2" fall and that's why I didn't go all the way down.

I got a notice about an Rx being ready and when I got to the pharmacy I bitched about it causing dizziness and I refused the refill, but partly because I have plenty left.

Some Medico should go for a grant to study any relationship between "dizzying" medications and fall injuries.  Probably never happen, since it is contrary to "Pharma's" interests.

I'm not signing this one so Pharma won't know who posted it.

BOY !  Does that bring back memories !  Family vaca, 1966, 11.5 y.o. at the time.  A few years later, the first "bungee jumpers" started jumping off that bridge.  Been up Pike's Peak twice, '66 & '71, short of breath both times but not seriously so.
Another memory from '66 was the Grand Canyon ranger telling South Rim tourists to be aware of the "high flying birds" (condors, vultures, eagles, etc.) BELOW us !  That's because they were flying below the Rim's elevation.  WILD !!

Try zip-lining the gorge.  Fun times.

No thanks !!
My days of "questionable adventures" are over.  I no longer need an "adrenaline boost", especially as it might not be "safe" for me medically.  :old:
