If it isn't one thing, it's another...
« on: May 03, 2025, 12:34:00 AM »
Well, the old TV died... I could probably fix it. Eventually.

I bought a replacement with more features for 1/3 of what I paid for it.

And went to plug my Blu-Ray/DVD player into it with the HDMI cable. It sees that a Blu-Ray player is plugged into the port, but... Nada. Nothing doing.

Gonna try a different cable tomorrow.

And dang, but the prices of blu-ray players has shot up in the past few years... I think I paid about $35 or so for the Samsung...

New cable is a good idea. Also, update firmware on your player.

If a more current cable doesn't work, pawn shops, thrift stores, and FB Marketplace are your friend. Lots of people getting out of physical media so a 4K player should be easy to source. Update firmware ASAP on it, too.

But I can't "see" it to update the firmware... Maybe I'll try plugging in RCAs...

Dude at the hock shop near me says that they don't mess with them. They sit on the shelf for a bit, and then don't work.

I'm not trying to start a size contest, but it looks like a good thread title for an old fashioned pity party.

Mom's been on the warpath since January to clean Dad's junk out of the garage (he's in memory care, another topic). I'm the only child, 200 miles away.  Finally the weather broke, I spent a week securing a trailer for tool chests, lawn tractor, open containers of 50 y.o. grease, a gun safe, half filled pints of vodka, etc. Also going over the suburban which has been until last week a college senior's grocery getter, negotiating obligations from my wife & grown children to help, getting the trailer and moving equipment staged for this morning's 7am departure.

One thing I missed. Discovered last night that the truck's got a cracked radiator.

Every time I see this thread Title I read it as: "If it isn't one thing, it's your mother..."
(punchline from an old joke IIRC)
