Biggest Supreme Court appointment mistake dies at 85
« on: May 09, 2025, 09:44:12 AM »
David Souter died at his home in New Hampshire.

He was appointed to the court by George Bush I and quickly turned into a turncoat albatross, siding with the liberal wing of the court on any number of decisions, including the one that allowed local governments to strip local property owners of their property for no reason other than to promote local commercial development.

In a lot of ways Souter mirrored Earl Warren's appointment to the court -- a seeming Constitutional Conservative who quickly wiped his ass with the Constitution and helped promote a liberal activist court that allowed government to run amok.

Good riddance.

Libs are going to be in absolute anguish over this.  Time for a good appointment and then to set some STRONG precedents that will last a century.

ETA:  Nevermind, he retired in 2009.  That must be why I never heard him as a key opinion any time recently.

Yeah, Sotomayor took his place. She seems to be firmly in the Constitution is a living doc camp.

Sotomayor (mis)interprets things as only a "wise Latina" can.
Trump won in 2016. And again in 2024. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.

More like the "Constitution?  What's that?" camp.
