Who here is going to a Live Earth concert?

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20070706/D8Q79QFO1.html   Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood will be there.  rolleyes

algore, however, is a freaking idiot. Get this quote from him
Quote
"This is going to be the greenest event of its kind, ever," Gore told The Associated Press recently. "The carbon offsets and the innovative practices that are being used to make this a green event, I think, will set the standard for years to come."
Is he actually arrogant enough to think he can quantify total carbon emissions from planet earth?  (As if human produced carbon emissions even produce global warming in the first place)

First I've heard of them.  So they're doing it to raise money for light bulbs?  Wooohoooo!!  And raise awareness of climate change?  Yea, that sounds like fun.  rolleyes  So, I guess you can light up, but you can't exhale until you purchase a carbon offset.  laugh

This reminds me of the annual "Earth Day" events in Washington, when a million or more people got together to celebrate their envionmental sensitivity . . . and in the process, converted acres of park lawn to mud and left behind tons of reefer stubbs, empty paper cups, used condoms, human excrement, dirty diapers, and other assorted trash for someone else to clean up.
Trump won in 2016. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.

Every foul smelling, treehugging hippy on the planet will be at those things.  You couldn't get me anywhere near one.  Stinky hippies and crappy music.  I'll pass, thanks.
Oh, Lord, please let me be as sanctimonious and self-righteous as those around me, so that I may fit in.

I am not going because of the big, dirty carbon footprint my travel would cause (reality: it isn't worth my time even if travel and tickets were pre-paid). I clearly see the socialist goals that are not too well hidden behind the scenes. I loathe all of them for the impact their stupidity may have on my FREE life.
Just say no to Obama, Osama and Chelsea's mama.

I was in a book store today and saw that they were selling "The Official Companion Book to the LiveEarth Concerts".  I leafed through it and found it to be a steaming pile of self-congratulatory propaganda BS.

It simply astounds me that so many people can be so stupid.  This Live Earth crap is a compelling argument against universal suffrage.

I was immediately turned off by one of the commercials XM ran for it.

They put on an old Roy Rogers radio commercial for a hat that had a capgun in it, "surprise your friends and have a real Western gun pop out" and then a cap-gun sound. And then the commentator said "Yeah, we didn't know what the consequences of that would be then, either. Live Earth, coming..."

Was like...Excuse me? What are you trying to say, there?  angry

From Riley's link:

Quote
A huge industry has sprung up to provide corporations with carbon credits.

However, critics say that the practice is simply a way for consumerist industries and nations to export their responsibility to developing countries. Others say it simply does not work.

Carbon-offsetting is, it turns out, how celebrities square green issues with their extravagant lifestyles and use of private jets.

Jon Bon Jovi has said: "We wrote a cheque, we took care of our footprint and raised awareness, blah blah blah."

I hate to be cliche' (not really, it fits) but "Follow the money".

If you can figure out a way to separate stupid greenie celebrities from their money, then more power to you.

Can't burn. That produces CO2.  grin

Also, need the bang-head-on-wall icon:

Quote
Organizers promised the huge shows were made green by using recycled goods and buying carbon credits to offset the inevitable high power bills.

Critics say Live Earth lacks achievable goals, and that jet-setting rock stars whose amplifier stacks chew through power may send mixed messages about energy conservation. On her tour last year, Madonna produced an estimated 485 tons of carbon dioxide in four months, Britain's Guardian newspaper reported.

Wife dragged me to a Faith Hill Tim McGraw concert last night.  Faith did a great "I'm a moron" bit....except it wasn't a bit.

No, I'm not making this *expletive deleted*it up.  My wife's best friend found it just as comical as I did.  Wife didn't get why I was cussing and laughing.

I heard them talking about turning the thermostat down 6 degrees in the winter and just wearing more clothes to stay warm, we would use millions less barrels of oil each day.

It just cracked me up. I can just see Algore and a bunch of these other environmentalist elitists all bundled up, huddling together in their mansions trying to keep warm.

The article was so chock full of examples of hypocracy that I actually read the whole thing.  Here is a tidbit besides the comments about carbon credits:

Quote
Of course, Live Earth is doing its utmost to ensure the event is 'green' in appearance at least - stars will be ferried between the stage and dressing room by energy-efficient Smart Cars and biodiesel fuelled Mercedes.

Hmmm?  Fly your whole crew to the concert and have the star driven the last couple feet in an earth friendly car?  I figured it out.  The earth isn't warming, it just feels like it is because these folks are up to their eyeballs in warm and fuzzy feelings.

I didn't want to go, but the wife's been on my ass about being negative....so when they said they wanted to buy tickets for Faith Hill and Tim McGraw I just shut my piehole.

If you really believe global warming is a problem (and I hold a minority view on that topic among forum members here I bet) I get really annoyed when people tell me I can "help" by spending money, and giving other people money.

It's much easier to do that, than to actually make sacrifices like driving less, making the kids walk to school, carpooling, turning off your A/C, etc...

That would require actual WORK now wouldn't it?!

It appears folks here & in the U.K. had better things to do than watch the concert. It flopped.
