What's the fine/punishment for driving on a suspended license?

I have a friend who's been driving on a suspended license for about a year, and I want to tell her what the range of possibilities are if she gets pulled over.  Can the officer even let you off if he wanted?

A fellow stops at a bar and drinks two beers to wind down. Gets in his car and drives the two blocks to his house but halfway there a soccer mom, distracted by her cellphone, runs a stop sign and t-bones him. Who will go to jail?

Truthfully that depends on the officer...  I have handled that wreck; and the fellow was well under the legal limit.  Mom got the tickets.

On topic; here the penalties climb steeply for repeat offences; minimum mandatory jail on subsequent convictions.

The mom is the at-fault party. Unless the guy is over the limit there will be no penalty (other than a smashed up car and any injuries).
