About the only thing I can say is watch for people who pile a whole load of money into a machine and don't win.  If the machines are set to an 80% payout and someone has already shoved $20 into the machine without winning, at least you have a statistical possibility of breaking even (should you choose to throw down another $80 to test the theory  laugh )

Or just lose your butt and have fun doing it.

Remember with gambling the house always wins.

The only gambling I do is I go to the horse track about once a summer with $20 and I pick up a Powerball ticket every now and then.

If you're there to maximize your chances, instead of "entertainment" gambling, I wouldn't play the slots at an Indian casino as the main form of gambling. Stick to the table games where the odds are fixed. If you've got any "techniques" for games like blackjack, it's actually a bit more profitable at the Indian Casino, as there's a bit better odds the dealer, overhead surveillance, or pit-bosses aren't as experienced as the Vegas ones.

It's simple supply/demand and competition. Most Indian casinos have a relative monopoly on casino-style gambling over a large geographic area. One state, one tribe, one reservation etc.  In comparison, places like Vegas and Atlantic City the competition is very intense in such a saturated market, and the payout returns on the slots are much higher to compete for the gambling dollar, sometimes the aggregate return is as high as 98%, maybe more.

Where the casino gambling is more of a novelty, the payouts on the slots are less because there's no competition next door.

If you are going to play the slots, the best you can do is try to find an open machine that's placed on a corner or high traffic walkway where a winner would be highly visible. If the casino has any machines with better odds, there's a chance they'll be placed where winners will be highly visible to attract and encourage more gamblers.  Playing max bet every pull, if you can afford it, is best because when you win, the jackpots go up exponentially. When you hit a jackpot on three coins, the payout is more than three times that of one coin, etc.

Otherwise, beyond the main aisle theory, the machines are random, so wandering around randomly is just as good as feeding one machine the whole night. When I wander around randomly at Vegas, plunking quarters here and there, the look on some elderly gambling addict's face when I walk up as she (it was always a woman) finally leaves the "cold" machine she's been feeding all night, and win all of "her money" on the first pull is just absolutely priceless. If looks could kill.

I could try and tell them something about probability and statistics, but I doubt it would help. LOL...

Also on the slots, you might want to play a progressive machine, where there's the shared jackpot between the bank of machines, or even a "network" of all that type of machine across the country. You can tell these by the big LED sign above them that's constantly counting up money. You can win the little jackpots from the slots, and there's at least the chance on the progressive jackpot too. Many progressive jackpots go up into seven figures. The odds, while still astronomical, are at least a fair bit better than lottery tickets from the gas station.
I promise not to duck.

What AJ said.  Table games, especially blackjack, are a better choice if you have some idea of what you are doing.  Slots are good for resting and getting free drinks.

I'm not big on casinos but I have good friends who are, so I end up in one occasionally.

Warning, in case you get bored with the slots:  Don't sit down at a Texas Hold'em table unless you really know what you are doing.  It's not like playing at a party, with friends or online, and it's not like on TV - at a lot of tables it's really fast and quiet, and you'll feel like a retard if you can't keep up.  sad  If you have to play, watch everyone for a little bit and find a seat at a table with the loudest, drunkest novices.  laugh

If there were any tips for slots, they'd be academic here in New Mexico. There's been at least one case where a slot machine paid off big, and the casino claimed the machine "malfunctioned", and TS.

Slots are slots.  Play video poker if you want some kind of chance.  Or do what I do and hit the BJ (black jack you perverts) tables.  You might lose money, but its not nearly as mind-numbing as pulling the one armed bandit.  If a casino only has slots they just lost my business.  Slot machines suck!

I find machines at Indian casinos pay very badly. Much worse than Vegas or Atlantic City. Play low stakes 21/Blackjack. Throw a 20 or two at some machines, but don't expect much. Video poker is your best machine bet. Do some searches about some strategies for machines.

I really like craps; that's one of the best games. It takes a while to learn, but by taking free odds to the max on your bet you can get the house edge really slim.

Set a limit as well. Bring your cash. Don't use a casino atm as you will get hosed on fees. If you lose your budget for the day, you leave.

OK, I'm back.  Got there, ate lunch, then gambled about 4 hours.  Played some 21 and some penny and nickel slots.  Left with about the same money I brought (squaw was $200 ahead).  Had fun.

AJ's advice mirrors my experience and what I've been able to glean from 'gamblers'.  Yes, Las Vegas is a better deal (slotwise) than the Injun Casinos.  I could play slots there for 2-4 hours on a cup of quarters (about $20).  We used to go to LV about twice a year, it's only a 6 hour drive from here.  We liked to stay at Luxor, usually got a room on LV Blvd right behind the Sphinx (would that be the sphincter room?)  laugh    The elevators there are cool; they kinda slant sideways.   Maybe I'll make a bonzai run over to LV for a couple of days.  Or maybe I should get a job; it's been 2 years since I've worked and my savings are going fast.  shocked

Everything AJ said.

Never play the slots; go with table games.

And make sure you don't get addicted (like I think I might be).  undecided

Won't help you this time, but try to learn poker. There is no house edge, you are playing 9 people who are hopefully more drunk and less skilled than you.

Too late now but next time, try and find a single deck Blackjack table.  This kind of coincides with AJ's observation:  If you've got any "techniques" for games like blackjack, it's actually a bit more profitable at the Indian Casino, as there's a bit better odds the dealer, overhead surveillance, or pit-bosses aren't as experienced as the Vegas ones.

For slots, corner or window location slots have the higher payout chips in them.  The deeper you go into the casino, the lower the payout.

So far, the best bets are on table games, if not playing poker are:

Single Deck BlackJack
3 or 4 card poker
Multiple Deck BlackJack

Then -

Video Poker Machine -Keno/Video Poker/Multi-game machines
Progressive Slots
Single Machines

Texas Hold'em games are against other players, not the house, so the odds vary.

Nobody has single deck Blackjack, and I don't get why it improves the odds in the player's favor. Multiple decks still have the same proportions of cards.

Lots of places have single deck.  The odds only work to the player if said player is counting cards.  It is possible to account for probablity with multiple decks but it is A LOT harder.

Not bad! Remember that nickels pay out better than pennies, quarters pay out better than nickels, and dollars pay better than quarters. Also, you may want to max out your bet for best payoff.

That being said, my mom hit a penny slot for $3000 a few weeks ago. I hit a double diamond nickel machine for max payout a few years ago. I made a max play of three nickels and won $250. That sort of covered my $150 loss at the craps tables the night before.

I like playing the ponies as well; it seems like you can have a good day at the track for under $20 in wagers. Getting a Racing Form and making selections seems like the luck factor can be reduced. Twenty at the track lasts longer than $20 in a casino, but they don't comp drinks.

Remember, gamble with your head, not over it.

Memorize the blackjack probability chart, and the cards become fixed.  Blackjack is about the bet, not the hand.

You'll never make millions at it, but if you can work the numbers well enough you can have a real good time.  Walk in with $100, walk out with $101, ten drinks, and two packs of cigarettes.  Where else can you get paid to play games, drink beer, and smoke Camels?  Hit the casinos in KC, and they'll sell you the little card with the chart on it at the gift shop.
