Does ramen cook better in a square pot than a round one?

That assumes ramen cooks up well at all.  I haven't touched the stuff in years.

Some of the recipes on that ramen site sound interesting.

I remember when it was 2 for a buck, the 3, then 4 for a buck.  Makes me wonder how they're making any money at all.  They must be using lead based flour or something.

Hell, here in DC you can get generic store-brand Ramen for up to 15 for a buck.  shocked

Best deal I've seen for Ramen is 8 for a buck, but I don't often go looking for it.

It's nice to keep a couple around the house, though, as a quick snack or the base for a nice quick dinner.

I'll add sliced cooked chicken and some veggies to a Ramen and have a quick and filling soup.

Alton Brown also used Ramen as the base for a casserole in his one show.

I found baked soba ramen and rice-stick ramen in an Asian grocery...made in Japan, NOT China.

Tasty, and not bad for you. Regular ramen has the nutritional value of a jellybean.

Hmm, never thought about ramen from other cultures or even that "better" ramen existed.  Always thought it was the asian equiv to white loaf bread and balogna.

Rice-stick ramen is like the stuff in a bowl of Pho. It's got almost no fat at all, but it's still carbs. Lots of places that have Vietnamese stuff will have it, sometimes in the little pour-hot-water cup things.

Soba noodle is buckwheat noodle, Japanese, it's really good for you, high in fiber, low in fat, and it's usually baked instead of fried. It's somewhat of an aquired taste, though, as it has a definite "whole wheat bread" flavor to it. Smiley

Soba sounds good.  I'll have to check the local United Nations of grocery stores: Global Food.

10 to 12 cents each makes Ramen a pretty good deal.

Break up the dried noodles while still in pack. Cook 'em up and toss in an egg for the last minute or two and you've got a reasonably healthy and tasty meal.

I like to discard the flavoring packet and eat the ramen dry.  Crunchy goodness...

I've eaten them dry before.  Did that a few times while studying late at night and didn't want to boil water.

I'm more inclined to discard the noodles and use the flavoring packet.

They're VERY good sprinkled over buttered popcorn.

Ugh.

I stay away from the shrimp ones. They're pretty nasty.

I like the chicken, beef, and vegetarian ones.

There were a couple of User Friendly strips that involved Ramen or the cup equivilent that were very funny.
