Some people suggest that he's actually a liberal, sacrificing his reputation to make conservatives look bad.
That really seemed plausible a few years ago. Then he started saying "God hates America," and "Thank God for dead soldiers." If he was trying to make fundies look bad, he wouldn't break the stereotype like that.
