As climate alarmists from all over the world head to Bali to talk about the sacrifices regular folks have to make to save the planet from global warming, it seems certain media will ignore all the private jets clogging the tiny airport.

As if its not enough that the United Nations Climate Change Conference is being held at what NewsBusters reported as "a truly beautiful tropical island paradise," the management of the nearby airport has issued a warning to attendees that they are going to have to park their private jets somewhere else.

I kid you not.

As reported by Bali Discovery Tours on November 3 (emphasis added):
Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Tempo Interaktif reports that Angkasa Pura - the management of Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport are concerned that the large number of additional private charter flights expected in Bali during the UN Conference on Climate Change (UNFCCC) December 3-15, 2007, will exceed the carrying capacity of apron areas. To meet the added demand for aircraft storage officials are allocating "parking space" at other airports in Indonesia.

The operational manager for Bali's Airport, Azjar Effendi, says his 3 parking areas can only accommodate 15 planes, which means that some of the jets used by VIP delegations will only be allowed to disembark and embark their planes in Bali with parking provided at airports in Surabaya, Lombok, Jakarta and Makassar.

Talk about your really inconvenient truths.

Now now, we've talked about this before.

As I heard it on Fox (Fairly imbalanced....so who knows) they were estimating that this conference would cause 50,000 tons of pollution from the jets going back and forth.  I guess having the UN conference in, gasp, the UN building that was built for such things is crazy talk, right?
 rolleyes
When I become Emporer for Life, I'll burn the UN building to the ground (or turn it into a shelter for strippers) and execute all the diplomats that are there.

And so, concerned as they were about the crisis of an impending lean harvest, the lords met to feast upon pheasant, roast suckling pig and endless puddings, discussing means by which they might entice the peasants to consume less gruel.

I've always had a fantasy about pulling a Lupin-like theft of the gun statue out front of the UN building.

Only to return the next day with it loaded onto a hydraulically folding trebuchet on a semi trailer and launcing through the 20th or so story windows.

So, the newly elected Liberal Prime Minister  of Australia, who ran on a platform including Globular Worming, who promised to immediately sign the Kyoto Accord, decided to actually read the Kyoto Accord.  After reading same, declared, "Hey, I ain't signing that puppy.  Holy crap it will destroy our economy and it's full of BS."  (Or words to that effect.)  Welcome to reality Mr. New PM. rolleyes

Hey, at least he decided to read it before signing, and at least he's man enough to NOT sign it.

Rudd signed it. First thing he did. Seen as one of the election promises that won him the election. Welcome to that reality.

Since you seem to be concerned about pollution emissions, do you know that one SUV will emit over 100 tons of CO2 during its lifetime?  That's just carbon dioxide.  Multiply that by the millions of SUV's on the road, and 50k is a small number indeed. And Faux News is probably including total pollutants in the 50k figure.

Actually I'm just commenting on the hypocrasy of the UN, Al Gore, and all the other aholes that are heading to this conference.
Lets have a conference on Global Warming.
We already have a huge building in New York, and many of our people are already there on assignment.
Oh, nevermind.  Lets take a crapload of private jets to the tropics.  Lets invite a bunch of windbag "experts", too.

PRIME Minister Kevin Rudd last night did an about-face on deep cuts to greenhouse gas emissions, days after Australia's delegation backed the plan at the climate talks in Bali.

A government representative at the talks this week said Australia backed a 25-40 per cent cut on 1990 emission levels by 2020.

But after warnings it would lead to huge rises in electricity prices, Mr Rudd said the Government would not support the target.

The repudiation of the delegate's position represents the first stumble by the new Government's in its approach to climate change.

Mr Rudd said he supported a longer-term greenhouse emissions cut of 60 per cent of 2000 levels by 2050.

But the Government would not set medium-term targets until a report by economist Ross Garnaut was completed next year.

"I think speculation on individual numbers prior to that is not productive and I would suggest it would be better for all concerned if we waited for the outcome of that properly-deliberated document," Mr Rudd said.

The electricity industry yesterday warned it may not be able to meet growing consumer demand and comply with the 2020 target.

Energy Supply Association of Australia chief executive Brad Page said a 17 per cent power price rise in Victoria would seem "pretty modest" compared with the cost of complying with the target.

An ESAA report released this year found cutting carbon emissions by 30 per cent of 2000 levels by 2030 wold push up power costs by 30 per cent.

Mr Page said the cost of meeting the higher target by 2020 would be much more as low-cost, green-generation technology would not be available for more than 10 years.

"You are dependent on yet-to-be delivered technology," he said.

"The community needs to be aware cuts of this magnitude will come at considerable cost and it's difficult to know how exactly it will be delivered."

Opposition Leader Brendan Nelson said the suggested cuts would have "devastating impact" on Australia's economic development.

"It will have serious consequences for electricity bills and many other burdens borne by working families in day-to-day life, and pensioners," Dr Nelson said.

Greenpeace campaigner Steven Campbell said Australia should slash carbon emissions by 20 to 40 per cent of 1990 levels by 2020.

"If we want to keep global warming below 2C then these are the targets we need," Mr Campbell said.

A team of 212 climate change experts from more than 20 countries yesterday called for a 50 per cent cut in greenhouse pollution by 2050.

Australian Labor Party leader Kevin Rudd has been sworn in as prime minister, following a landslide victory in parliamentary elections last week.

Immediately after the ceremony, he signed documents to ratify the Kyoto Protocol on climate change, reversing the previous administration's policy.

"This is the first official act of the new Australian government," he said.

He signed it. These talks are about Kyoto's successor as Kyoto expires in 2012.

I see your logic: if you are rich enough to own a highly expensive polluting device, it is okay, because the masses are too poor to own them so there aren't very many.  And it is okay for the rich to drive around in SUVs, because they have the money to buy carbon credits.

------------------------------------

Regarding Rudd not signing any serious carbon cutting bill, I love it.  They all talk about how important it is, but as soon as the reality of the huge costs necessary to avoid the (completely overblown) "disaster" become apparent, they balk.

No. The point is that it's hypocritical for SUV driving rubes who don't give a rat's ass about pollution to use that argument.

I drive around in my SUV to destroy the earth, actually I just keep it idling in the parking lot of my office.  I can only hope global warming is real and will destroy the Eastern Seaboard, including New York City, Boston and D.C.

I get warmer weather--it's motherf**king cold here now AND I get my freedom back once the East Coast Eloi are whale chow.  Talk about a win-win-win!!!

SUV Police=> police

Too bad this Global Warming rubbish is only a manifestation of White Guilt as my cold will not leave my head and this icy air on top of me is not helping.

Now if we can get global warming to cause earthqaukes, we could take care of the left coast also....... grin

Anyone know if the Martians have signed onto the Kyoto Treaty ??  Their polar ice caps are continuing to shrink.  Must be all those Martian SUV's.  Maybe Al Gore can sell Carbon Credits (aka indulgences) to them and "make it all better".   rolleyes

Sorry dasmi, but here in Chicago we've been on "Weather Panic" aka "Snowmeggedon" all this week and I  spent Wednesday morning and this morning shoveling about 8 inches of "Global Warming" off my driveway.   rolleyes
