Did you maybe accidentally hit a setting? I've never had that, including the two packages I've received this week. I recall some years ago I ordered an expensive camera lens sold by another merchant on Amazon, and the checkout page had a prominent warning that it would come signature required.

It's rare that my Prime deliveries even rate a doorbell ring. Most are Stop & Drop.

I just happened to be outside when they showed up and they handed them to me. Maybe that had something to do with it.
Cliffh:
I've had them require a picture, even after handing it to me. But never a signature.
