Title: Subverting capitalism with jumpsuits.

Quote
Maura and Abigail have been accused of fascism before. Americans are primed to equate lack of choice with lack of freedom, and the aesthetics of the project, from the cut of the jumpsuit to the music on the playlist, look and feel decidedly Soviet. When I ask Maura about it, she tells me that people forget the project isn’t about forcing people to wear the same thing; it’s about encouraging them to end their participation in a harmful system. “JUMPSUIT is not a mandate,”

When I was growing up if a storyteller wanted to show that the characters lived in a tyrannical dystopia they would have everybody wearing the same types of clothes. Some plain, utilitarian coverall type of thing. Everybody was equal you see.

And the wearing of Mao jackets by almost everyone in China during his reign showed that it does happen in the real world. Hell, they still wear it now but it's not as pervasive.

So these women want to bring us that type of society. This meshes well with Bernie's complaint about how many deodorant choices there are.

Now I don't think they'll achieve their dreams and I don't consider them a threat in any way but I'm posting this just as another point that these people are mentally unsettled. Choice bothers them so much they've made a business out of reducing choices.

Full disclosure: I, too, limit my wardrobe for daily wear but I would not dream of showing up at a wedding or funeral in overalls or my usual comically oversize sombrero, paisley mu-mu, and wooden clogs combo.

Dumbasses.

“Profits from JUMPSUIT will go into a fund to purchase a full page ad in American Vogue. The publication of the ad will mark the end of JUMPSUIT.”

Let’s use capitalism to prove individualism sucks.

Hypocrisy is thy name.

So, they are charging $200 bucks for coveralls.  That alone tells us what we need to know about them.

They think people will pay $150 to wear a hideous sack?

I have a couple of coveralls that I use when working around the house; they are decent enough to wear when I have to make that emergency trip to Lowe's/HD for parts.  They cost $ 44 each on Amazon.

Have them all hang their heads a bit and wear matching hats and it is the same.  They are trying hard to make this look cool.

There are also lots of different body types in that photo.  They either have a lot of size variations or they tailored each one.

Or you can go with Action Photo White!    =D  I think I would get that dirty just sitting at my desk.

I have worn coveralls before, but I don't have any right now.  They were great when I got called in the middle of the night to come help fix something, but if you don't have a standard body type it can be hard get a good fit.  I wouldn't want to wear them every day any more than I want to wear the same shirt and pants every day.

Reminds me of story (or maybe a joke?) I heard that 'way back when, the Klan was charging an initiation fee of $25 and in return was giving initiates a $2 white sheet . . . that had two holes in it.

My dad wore jumpsuits for years, then in the 70s...

Yep, my dad mostly wore suits to work (until he bought his own business) but he always wore jumpsuits like what HH pictured above until he passed away.  I inherited 5 of them.   They just hang in the closet.

I feel stupider after having read that article.

There are also lots of different body types in that photo.  They either have a lot of size variations or they tailored each one.

The article claims that have "jumpsuits in two hundred forty-eight sizes culled from NASA data to fit almost any body type." Although when she describes the one she gets it sounds like it's more of a "one size fits all" type thing.

Just as we reject the mini-mansion in favor of the city, refuse the automobile in favor of the train,

You what? Why would you do that?

JUMPSUIT offers a way to forego the insular logic of self-expression in favor of forming communal bonds.

We embrace our neighbors.

We reject the signs of class, race and gender that are inscribed onto our daily interactions.

You have to wear a boiler suit to talk to your neighbors, or with people of another race? What in the Ocasio-Cortez is wrong with you? I'm pretty sure if I started wearing your stupid uniform, a whole lot fewer people would want to talk to me.

In the future, we will be brothers and sisters together in JUMPSUITS.

Yeah, and our matching Nike shoes. What time does the comet arrive?

So now we need a little music to go with them:

How about song about the SAS rescuing the hostages from the Iranian Embassy?

Or almost starting WWIII because of computer glitch:

If you are going to pick the perfect fitting jump suit out of 248 different sizes, why would you then get them all in the same color and the same color as everyone else gets?

Then wear your own style shoes as griz mentioned.

Then style your hair in your own unique way.

Clothes are not the only way people separate themselves.  And if choosing your clothes is such a chore, maybe you need to choose different clothes and get on with your life.  It doesn't have to be a cultural statement.

I used to be into individualism, until it went mainstream. That totally ruined it.

Subverting capitalism with jumpsuits.

Funny, to me a speed suit has deep connotations with capitalism, stock holding & the potential for riches beyond the dreams of avarice.  But I always found them to be rather uncomfortable when actually doing the physical labor that the above required.

If it carries the image of being cool & hip people who care about such things will gladly pay that and more.  The rest of us will just point and laugh.
