We are hosting a party on NYE, started out with just 7 people but my wife keeps inviting folks over, not sure what the final count is.
But I'm making:
Rumaki with antelope loin instead of chicken liver
Sweedish meatballs out of bear
goat cheese pizza with carmelized onions, roasted peppers and sundried tomatoes
Cheese fondue
and some normal pizzas for the less adventurous folks.

I've stopped doing much of anything on New Year's. Just hang at home with the pup and go to be early.
New Year's Day I'm going to break a tradition, I think, and for the first time in decades, not have a pork roast.
I am, however, going to bake a small ham, I think, on Sunday and not worry about cooking on Monday.
I'll eat off of that for a couple of days and then turn the bone and whatever remains on it into ham and bean soup.
Saturday I'm going to make baked ziti. Stopped at the store on my way home and got all the stuff I need.

Normally we are home before 10pm (after a dinner party somewhere) and asleep before the ball drop, but this started out with just 3 couples playing cards against humanity and it has expanded. I have a feeling all the neighbors will be invited.

We usually stay home and fix a nice meal. I am always in bed by 10:30 anyway.
This year though my wife wanted to accept an invitation to a local joint for a prime rib buffet and they really do prime rib good. 7pm reservation and forecast is for -17 low that night so I will probably still be home and in bed by 11 unless the car doesn't start or the roads drift closed before we get home.

I'm actually making some liver and heart jerky this weekend but it's for dog treats.
The bear meatballs sound interesting. Antelope is excellent venison if it's been handled well (and some of worst stuff ever tasted if it hasn't)

I'm cleaning out my freezer.
I've shot quite a few antelope, it is my one of my favorite game meat. The last buck I shot was full on rut, so this isn't the best eating.

I shot a nice pronghorn buck west of Casper after chasing him around the rim rock for over 5 hours. He knew I was after him and all he wanted to do was keep his harem together and avoid me. I finally got him cornered by the river and got a clear shot at him even though he was running like an antelope at the time. The flavor of his meat was ok but as tough as a Michelin truck tire.

Cool I hunted at the Miller ranch which is in that general area. I think that ranch was a couple hundred thousand acres of deeded ranch and blm leaaes.

I had black-eyed peas today, in memory of my Great Aunt Mary. She was superstitious, and BEP's on New Years Day was important to her. (oddly enough, not the greens part just the peas) So I do something with them every year in her honor.
They were from a can; I sauteed a half an onion (sliced) in a little sausage grease with a couple of dried chipotle peppers. Then added a few ounces of leftover pork stock to get rid of it, and simmered until the peppers were soft enough to rip apart with a spoon. Then added the can of peas, some garlic powder, black pepper, and thyme. Simmered for 5 minutes or so. Poured over a bowl of rice and sprinkled with hot sauce.
I like last year's BEP Falafel better, but these were closer to how Aunt Mary would've fixed them.

We'll put the bar over here, and the hors d'oeuvres over there, and we'll pass the rumaki and the cheese puffs.

Yesterday was the first New Year's I've not had pork and sauerkraut in probably... well... ever. I never got around to making kraut this year, and I don't really care that much for the stuff in a can or bag. Some of it's OK, but meh.
Cabbages are still looking good, so I should get a couple and make a batch of kraut.
