Maybe.
Looks like Politico let the cat out of the bag a bit early.

Biden picks Kamala Harris for
VP President
-
Biden ain't pickin' nothin' but his nose.
-
Well, she was "taking a knee" long before it became mainstream.
-
;/ Yeah, because he really needed to make sure he won California. ;/ Locked the state in, he has. No way Trump is winning it now.
I know she has some serious political baggage and I'm sure Team Trump already has a file on her.
I have not paid any attention to her on the subject (or any subject, frankly) of these recent riots but I'm guessing she's for 'em or at least it can be implied that she is, and that's another area to hit her on in the campaign.
Her name recognition outside of California must be pretty low. She did not do well at all in the primaries from what I remember.
So good job Team Basement you've certainly added an all-side political powerhouse to your ticket!
Stacey Abrams would have been a worse decision. So they did manage to avoid that debacle.
-
Didn't she do the best of the Dem candidates that were non-white and not an old man? I really doubt the white lady from Minnesota (Klobachar?) is a great choice right now.
I think Tulsi Gabbard would have been a good choice, but she may not support him like he wants. She never had great primary support though.

So the cop for VP? That should go over great.

This.
I guess she's supposed to show that he's down for BlackLiesMatter/DefundThePolice, but he's also somehow the law and order candidate. ;/
-
She will have less impact on the election than Pence had in 16.
-
From OP's link...
""Joe Biden chose Kamala Harris to become his running mate for the 2020 election on Aug. 1, two weeks before the Democratic National Convention, after keeping his choice close to the chest for months," Politico wrote about the potential Democratic ticket."
Given Biden's history, phrasing might need to be considered.
-
I don't know if this will turn out to be true, but I've been convinced the Democrats consider her the future of the party. (EVERYTHING is about identity politics to them.)
So, it would make sense that she would be their presidential pick. (Not a typo.)
-
Susan Rice is also being mentioned.
Would make more sense to me, far less baggage and she is connected with the most perfect man since Mohammad

MSM and the left: Ben who?
I see that only affecting the right votes which she isn't going to get anyway.

They nominated Joe Biden. I'm not sure they have the same idea of stage presence as the rest of us.

I thought Pence has been a great VP for a man like Trump (at least in hindsight). His behavior is the complete opposite of Trump yet somewhat complimentary and the traditional values he stuck up for helped reinforce Trump's campaign to an extent. I think he appealed to the voters Trump was trying to get out to the polls.
I don't know if any of the current Dems in the lead would help Biden substantially. Who would bring more positives than negatives? Someone who was not a crazy leftist would be best, but I doubt he will go that route.

I have this nagging feeling that Biden is going to chose Michelle Obama. She's said repeatedly she doesn't want to run for President, mostly because she loathes the campaigning she'd have to do. As the VP nominee, her need to campaign would be minimal, however. And in today's climate of supposed systemic and widespread racism, MO as the VP pick would be almost a sure win for Biden.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if the DNC is in negotiations with her on the QT right now.

Even with her in office they would still make millions. The problem is the will have to release their tax forms.

I think Trump will end up release some of his records, but he has successfully delayed that until after the election.

I cannot recall - has anyone else in recent history taken this long to choose their VP? It sounds like he's taking long, but it might be normal. ???
-
Word around my part of the world is that he's looking for a woman, preferably one of color, from somewhere in flyover country. Demo think that may reduce Trumps numbers in that part of the country. Harris is pure West Coast. Ignoring middle America may hurt Biden.

If memory serves, McCain didn't announce that Palin was his running mate until the GOP convention.
Of course, the decision was probably made well before then.

There are just so many clips of Biden saying off the wall stuff, getting confused and seeming to be disconnected it's hard to ignore.
Does anyone else wonder just what having him as the nominee is supposed to accomplish?
It is just so bizarre that one of our two parties has chosen and continues to support somebody who doesn't even seem to be able to campaign.
What is worse is the country has acclimated to it and moved on, with some actually pledging support to him.
It was weird when Trump ran and then won. This is a whole level or two up the bizzarro scale.
He wasn't even a good candidate back when he had control of his faculties.
Our elites really do despise us.
-
I wonder if Trump and Biden are throw-away candidates. Someone, the powers that run things behind the scene, maybe, might know or suspect something big/bad is coming and they are using Trump/Biden as scapegoats. Your tinfoil hat may vary.

I think the Democrats are going through a little bit of what Republicans went through in 2012. They had a bunch of candidates that all had problems of one kind or another and ended up with effectively the weakest candidate. The question to me is will an outsider come in on the Democrat ticket in 2024?
I would believe other powers were running things if Jeb Bush had won. Not sure I buy that with Trump since was a complete outsider. I guess that speculation could go on endlessly.

The way I see it, if elected, he's supposed to resign or be removed for being incapacitated, thus the Veep assumes office, and she's supposed to resign leaving guess who as Prez?*
I would really prefer that the second place winner of the election be the vice-president. Checks. Balances. All them platitudes. Has its disadvantages, too, I suppose, but checks , balances, and all them platitudes.
Seems right now we need lota more checks and balances.
Mostly checks.

So, Biden - Harris - Pelosi - Clinton? That will be a busy first week.
The Secret Service will need to hire more staff to guard all of the "retirees."
-
You're close. She's s'posed to appoint Clinton for her VP and then resign.
Possibly, but that's starting to stretch the probability paths a wee bit too much for me. At that point other left-wing extremists start to look almost as likely. Cuomo, who's pretty pushy comes to mind, e.g. A resurrection of another powerhouse, Bloomberg, might also be possible. And so on. Whoever curries the most Royal Favor with the most bucks or the biggest balls.

meh. The precedent has been set. If we don't like what the government wants, then we just don't do it. If they send the cops to make us we can burn things down, and shine lasers at the cops. It's not my fault our lasers are mounted on cooler things than Antifa's lasers.
But joking aside, the rule of law has taken a pretty big hit this summer, and if the rule of law is optional, what do the laws really matter?

Also USA today just jumped the gun, it seems. They were supposed to let the "candidate" announce it.

I mean, I get all the Female POC identity politics but I'm surprised that, this summer, they'd pick someone with a justice system history. Even a black one.
I guess we'll see what happens.

Harris has a lot of baggage that can be used against her by the Republicans if they have the will to do it.
Her history of sleeping her way up the career ladder is pretty minor compared to her abuse of the justice system, particularly in the BLM/defund the police era.

In some ways, O'Biden/Harris is a logical ticket, for the anti-logic Democrat Party. Because America is so hopelessly, intractably white supremacist, no black president could ever be elected. Ever. Obviously. Because we rejected the Most Qualified Sentient Being Ever to Tread the Globe, just because she was a woman, it's obvious no female president will ever be elected. So it makes Democrat-sense to get people to vote for a white guy, so we can have a black chick in the Oval Office.

So far. When is the ideal time for Joe to die or become clearly(more) incapacitated on the campaign trail? I think it is 72-96 hours before the election, enough time to get the sympathy riled up and to introduce the reluctant, somber, and patriotic replacement, but not enough time for that replacement to get attacked while we are all mourning.

That wouldn't be enough time to get qualified for the election. Better to wait for "A Weekend at Biden's" event.

Pretty sure he only has to survive until after the electoral college vote. After that, the VP-elect would assume office in January with no constitutional crisis. None that I'm aware of, anyway.

Kamala will support any position her handlers tell her to support.
Pro police, law and order? OK
BLM and defund the police? OK
Both, neither and switch back and forth? OK
It's about power and control.
Leftists don't have convictions like we think of them, other than attain power at all costs.

Michelle
I don't think Michelle would settle for a VP slot. And if Biden were to drop out (or drop dead) before the election, I doubt Harris would want to run as VP candidate under Michelle. And neither of them would want to run as VP candidate with HRC as the candidate for P. They'll keep Biden on life support through the election. If he is elected, all bets are off following the inauguration.

In the Times defense, there was no chance of Mike Pence actually becoming vice president.

I don't think Michelle would settle for a VP slot. [popcorn]
The VP position is often the gateway to the big chair

14 of 48 have made the big chair. Not really often, but not unheard of.
Although for this conversation we should probably be talking more of the 8 that became Pres due to the Pres dying in office. That's the more likely statistic.

Yeah, I should of have said people think of it that way.

I tend to agree. I don't think Michelle really has that aspiration.
If Biden has a say in it, he would want to stay until after inauguration. I would think it was less risky to talk him into resigning for his health shortly after actually becoming President.
However, that is all fantasy as I think they will be watching Trump from home next year.

Of course, Biden doesn't have to die, just resign. And if not, we'll have the dark comedy of Trump's opponent being the one who actually gets 25th amendmented.
Even if Biden serves a full term, if Harris is seen as being the hand rocking his hospital bed, she could run as a quasi-incumbent.

The Harris effect?
Didn't CNN have Hillary up by something like 20 points right before the election?
#NEW @CNN National Poll
Biden/Harris 50% (+4)
Trump/Pence 46%
That’s a 10 point shift towards Trump In a month

All Trump really needs to do is just play over and over again what Harris said about Biden during the primaries.

Truly an unhinged moment. She was really channeling Hillary Clinton there, except the nervous laughter sounded even more psychotic.

WOW!
Great example of evading the question. That has to go down in history as one of the all-time great non-answers of all time.

A poll taken 3 months ago said Harris won the poll for which VP selection makes people less likely to vote for Biden.
