A new war memorial will have no names inscribed on it in case errors are included.

The new installation will commemorate 40 soldiers from Tidworth, Wiltshire, who have died in battle since 1914.

Chris Franklin, town mayor, said the memorial committee's decision to "omit the names" seemed to be "purely based on it being too much of a risk".

But committee member Daz Stephenson said it wants the town council to complete the research on the soldiers.

The special committee selected to do the job says they don't want to go down in history as flubbing anything so throws the job back to the folks who appointed them.

"We're coming up to Remembrance and the normal saying is - When you go home tell them of us and say: for your tomorrow we gave our today," he [Mayor Franklin] said.

"The clue there is 'tell them of us' - if there's no names they can't tell us."

Heck, even before my third) morning cup of coffee I'm bright enough to figure out adding "And Those Known But To God" at the bottom solves the accuracy concern.

In practically every German village I was in/went through there were war memorials.  Many to 1914-1918, most included 1939-1945.  A surprising number also had 1870-1871.

There lots and lots of names, rarely were their bodies in the village cemetery.

Even at Sandweiler in Luxembourg (about a mile From Hamm Military Cemetery where Patton is buried, well over half the graves are marked "Ein Deutscher Soldat".

Probably the original reason for the memorials - they served as a replacement point when you didn't have a grave/body.

And yet there are a few "oopsies" regarding that list.  http://www.touchthewall.org/AddNames.html  Yet I do not recall the soldier/family of the soldier demanding it be torn down and done over.

Nor do I recall any of the 12 living soldiers whose names appear there demanding reparations for emotional suffering.  http://www.thewall-usa.com/names.asp

I went and picked up the 'Holiday Wreaths' this past weekend.  Today we'll go and conduct our own little private ceremony as we place a wreath on James Monroe's grave.  His headstone simply reads "Monroe" 

Wheaton is unique in that we have two Medal of Honor recipients, Robert Miller is buried in Arlington.

It is only fitting and proper that we do this on Veteran's Day.
