In practically every German village I was in/went through there were war memorials. Many to 1914-1918, most included 1939-1945. A surprising number also had 1870-1871.
There lots and lots of names, rarely were their bodies in the village cemetery.
Even at
Sandweiler in Luxembourg (about a mile From Hamm Military Cemetery where Patton is buried, well over half the graves are marked "Ein Deutscher Soldat".
