I mentioned in another thread that I went to the liquor store to get whiskey and they weren't open yet.
Specifically, I was going to get Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey whiskey, which I use to make hot toddys on days like today -- cold, blustery, snowy and generally just miserable as hell.
My recipe for said hot toddy (it also works with rum, scotch, Drambuie, fruit brandies, etc.)...
2 ounces of liquor
2 T butter, room temp
2 T brown sugar (or honey, if you're so inclined)
dash of cinnamon
freshly ground nutmeg
pinch ground cloves (optional, I don't use them)
Combine butter, brown sugar, and spices in a large mug and muddle well.
Add the liquor and fill the mug with boiling water.
Stir well to dissolve the butter and sugar, and sip.
They're great when you're cold and chilled and just want to sit in front of the fire (or pellet stove).
They're even better when you have a cold. The steam helps open you up, the honey is soothing, and the alcohol helps sooth a sore throat. Just don't combine a hot toddy with Tylenol.
