The outrage being expressed - is it justified?

There's no question that the event itself was tragic, and that there are people who are still working physically and emotionally to put their lives back together. But to use a contemporary event as a memory-jogger turning into gross insensitivity and a plot to reopen wounds?

I'm probably the last one to ask about "respecting" the emotional sensitivities of others, so I'm putting the question to you - did the show step out of bounds?

Recalling that the Oso landslide occurred in my county, I don't have a problem with it being mentioned on 'Jeopardy'. Same as I would not the Wellington avalanche of 1910.

I wouldn't have considered it as insensitive unless I had lived in Oso at the time. But if I were one of the producers and doubt were expressed during the review of the questions before they were aired, I'd have said "Aha, of course," and eliminated it.

Neutral at worst.

Wouldn't the positive way of looking at it be that using the Oso Mudslide confirms that it was a big important event, and something everyone, especially learned intelligent people ought to remember, so that it makes a good Jeopardy question?

I guess I could see the outrage if it were something like on Wipeout! where after bouncing off the big red balls into the mud, the host says, "Wow! You look like an Oso survivor!" etc.

But no, it was a big newsworthy event, and it's use as a question doesn't demean the tragedy or the survivors.

This is more about the ever increasing trend of pouncing on any opportunity for offense or insult as a platform for fame and stature.

The article says that more than a dozen people expressed outrage. How is this even noteworthy? I can piss off more people than that without working hard....

There's nitrogen in the atmosphere? And we breath the air that's in the atmosphere, right? And IIRC not so long ago all y'all were talking about using nitrogen as the means of execution.

Just how long has this nitrogen poison stuff been in the atmosphere? Who's responsible for putting it there and why has the government not done anything to stop them? And why has the government not warned us and provided us with ways to protect ourselves?

Now you only need to find eleven more folks. Maybe check the lists of folks who signed petitions against dihydrogen oxide being given to babies?

Maybe. But the petitions said Dihydrogen, and I've managed to fool people in college with it within the last year.

There is no 'too obvious' when it comes to this.

Hydrogen oxide would be HO. Water is H2 O, thus dihydrogen oxide.

Hydrogen PerOxide is H2O2. That is one H atom per O atom. Or Dihydrogen dioxide.
